The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s aviation safety regulator, has released an advisory titled “Gender Equality in Civil Aviation Sector” targeting stakeholders to boost the presence of women in various roles to achieve 25% representation by 2025.
Stakeholders are encouraged to enhance women’s representation in the aviation workforce, implement leadership and mentorship programs for women, tackle stereotypes and gender bias, and promote a better work-life balance for female employees, according to an official source on Wednesday.
The circular aligns with the gender equality principles in the Indian Constitution and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)’s vision to ensure equal opportunities in aviation.
It outlines several steps for stakeholders to improve gender equality in the workplace. These include adopting a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment, setting diversity goals, creating HR policies to meet these objectives, diversifying women’s job roles, and highlighting female role models and achievers to foster a gender-inclusive work culture, the official added.
