New Delhi: Engineers India Limited (EIL) participated in the launch of MC²+ Ignite, a sector-specific accelerator programme aimed at supporting deep-tech startups developing technologies for India’s energy sector. The programme was launched at IIT Madras and brought together key stakeholders from the oil and gas industry, academia and India’s startup ecosystem.

The launch was attended by Neeraj Mittal, Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG), Government of India, and Chairman, MC2 Foundation, along with senior leaders from India’s oil and gas sector and the innovation ecosystem.

Atul Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director (C&MD), Engineers India Limited (EIL), was also part of the landmark gathering.

MC²+ Ignite to Accelerate Energy-Focused Deep-Tech Startups

MC²+ stands for Multiply, Collaborate, Create and serves as a common platform connecting India’s Oil & Gas PSUs with academic institutions, research organisations and deep-tech startups.

The platform brings together key resources and expertise, including:

  • Industry problem statements
  • Technical expertise
  • Mentorship
  • Funding support
  • Infrastructure
  • Pilot opportunities
  • Market and industry access

Through the MC²+ Ignite accelerator track, startups will receive structured support to develop and scale technologies addressing challenges in India’s energy sector.

Around 30 Startups to Receive Structured Support

MC²+ Ignite will select around 30 startups for its structured acceleration programme.

The selected startups will receive access to a combination of financial and industry support, including:

  • Up to ₹2 crore in milestone-linked convertible funding
  • Access to infrastructure and technical expertise
  • Mentorship from industry experts
  • Pilot opportunities with industry stakeholders
  • Direct interfaces with energy-sector companies
  • Connections with leading academic and research institutions

The programme is designed to help promising startups move from lab-stage innovations towards real-world applications by providing access to industry expertise, infrastructure and potential pilot opportunities.

MC²+ Builds Bridge Between Startups and Energy PSUs

A key objective of MC²+ Ignite is to create a stronger connection between deep-tech startups, academic institutions and India’s energy PSUs. By bringing these stakeholders onto a common platform, the programme aims to identify promising technologies at an early stage and provide the support required to develop them into scalable solutions.

The initiative will also provide startups with opportunities to work on industry-relevant challenges and gain access to the expertise and market interface of major energy-sector organisations.

EIL Focuses on Innovation and Energy Transition

For EIL, participation in MC²+ Ignite aligns with its focus on technology development, deep-tech entrepreneurship and the energy transition. The initiative also supports the broader objective of indigenising technologies developed in India and creating pathways for Indian innovations to reach global markets.

Industry, Academia and Startup Ecosystem Come Together

The launch of MC²+ Ignite represents a collaborative approach involving energy PSUs, academia and the startup ecosystem.

The programme seeks to leverage the combined strengths of these stakeholders to encourage innovation and develop technologies relevant to India’s energy needs.

With funding, mentorship, technical support and pilot opportunities available under one umbrella, MC²+ Ignite is positioned to help the next generation of energy innovators progress from ideas and research towards commercial and industrial applications.
