Retired IAS officer G Sathyavathi has been appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner of the Karnataka Information Commission, marking a key administrative development in the state.
The appointment received formal approval from Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recommended her name for the post. With extensive experience in governance and administration, Sathyavathi is expected to bring institutional depth to the commission’s functioning.
Before joining the Indian Administrative Service through promotion in 2004, Sathyavathi served in the state civil services. Over the years, she has held several important roles within the Karnataka government, contributing to administrative reforms and personnel management.
Her most recent assignment was as secretary in the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR), where she worked closely with the chief minister’s office on key governance matters.
The Karnataka Information Commission plays a crucial role in ensuring transparency and accountability under the Right to Information framework, and Sathyavathi’s appointment comes at a time when strengthening information access remains a priority.
