Patna: The Bihar government’s Mukhyamantri Medhavriti Yojana has provided financial assistance to more than 9.78 lakh Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) students over the past six years, strengthening access to higher education for economically weaker sections.
According to the SC-ST Welfare Department, a total of ₹941.31 crore has been distributed under the scheme so far.
Financial Support for Meritorious Students
The scholarship scheme supports SC-ST students who pass Class 10 and meritorious girl students who pass Class 12.
Key benefits include:
- ₹10,000 for first division in Class 10
- ₹8,000 for second division in Class 10
- ₹15,000 for first division in Class 12
- ₹10,000 for second division in Class 12
The assistance is provided as a one-time financial grant to encourage students to pursue higher education without financial burden.

Year-Wise Beneficiaries Show Consistent Growth
The scheme has reached lakhs of students every year:
- 2025: 1,63,826 students
- 2024: 1,87,298 students
- 2023: 1,64,790 students
- 2022: 1,58,760 students
- 2021: 1,40,267 students
- 2020: 1,63,365 students
This steady coverage reflects the government’s continued focus on educational upliftment.
Strong Impact on Rural and Marginalised Communities
Officials said the scheme has significantly increased interest in higher education among SC-ST students, especially in rural and backward areas.
The financial support has helped students participate in academic activities without worrying about economic constraints, improving retention and performance in higher education.
Online Application Through Medhasoft Portal
Students who qualify this year will be able to apply online through the official Medhasoft portal.
Required documents include:
- Class 10 and 12 mark sheets
- Caste certificate
- Income certificate
- Residence proof
The online system aims to make the process faster, transparent, and more accessible.
