Patna: A nationwide free annual health screening programme for workers above 40 years of age was launched at the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Medical College and Hospital, Bihta, Patna, on Thursday. The initiative aims to strengthen preventive healthcare for industrial workers across the country.
The programme was inaugurated virtually from New Delhi by Union Labour and Employment Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya across 12 locations simultaneously.
Nationwide Health Screening Initiative for Workers
The new initiative focuses on early detection of diseases among workers above 40 years of age.
Under the programme:
- Free annual health check-ups will be provided
- Early diagnosis of occupational and lifestyle diseases will be prioritized
- Workers will receive preventive healthcare support
Officials said the scheme will help reduce long-term medical complications and financial burden on workers’ families.

Mandatory Health Checks Under New Labour Codes
The programme is part of the implementation of new labour laws, particularly the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020.
Key provisions include:
- Mandatory annual health check-ups for workers above 40 years
- Employers required to ensure medical screening
- Workers entitled to paid leave for health check-ups
Authorities said these reforms aim to improve workplace safety and health standards.
Bihar Government Reaffirms Commitment to Worker Welfare
Bihar Labour Resources Department Secretary Deepak Anand said the state government is fully committed to implementing labour reforms and improving worker welfare.
He highlighted that the government is actively working to bring new labour codes into practice and strengthen social security for workers.
Labour Commissioner Rajesh Bharti also explained the provisions of occupational safety codes and worker rights under the new framework.
ESIC Benefits and Social Security Support
Officials from Employees’ State Insurance Corporation also highlighted various benefits available to insured workers, including:
- Sickness cash benefits
- Compensation for workplace injuries
- Lifetime pension for dependents in case of death
- Maternity benefits up to 26 weeks
- Medical education reservation for workers’ children
These benefits aim to provide comprehensive financial and healthcare security.
Focus on Early Diagnosis and Free Treatment
The programme emphasizes early detection of health issues to prevent serious illnesses. Through ESIC facilities, workers will also receive free treatment, helping reduce unexpected medical expenses for families.
Officials said this initiative will significantly improve the health and financial security of industrial workers across the country.
