Bihar Clears $500 Million World Bank-Assisted Urban Transformation Program to Modernize Cities

Patna: The Bihar government has approved a major initiative titled the Bihar Urban Transformation Program, aimed at accelerating development in selected urban areas of the state.

The program focuses on strengthening city infrastructure and improving overall urban living standards, marking a significant step toward planned urban growth.

$500 Million World Bank Support for City Development

The initiative will be implemented with the support of the World Bank, which will provide a loan assistance of $500 million (over ₹4,000 crore).

This financial support will be used to modernize urban infrastructure and improve essential civic services across key cities in Bihar.

Focus on Strong Urban Infrastructure

Under the program, the government will prioritize development of:

Economic Growth and Employment Opportunities

The project is expected to strengthen urban economies by attracting private investment and generating new employment opportunities.

Key expected outcomes include:

  • Growth in infrastructure-related jobs
  • Increased private sector participation
  • Better opportunities for youth employment

Towards Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Cities

The Bihar Urban Transformation Program also emphasizes sustainable urban development. Cities will be developed in a way that is environmentally responsible and climate-resilient.

This approach aims to ensure long-term growth while maintaining ecological balance.
