New Delhi: India’s space economy is expected to grow rapidly and could reach USD 45 billion in the next 8–10 years, according to Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh. The minister also said that India is preparing for a major milestone under the Gaganyaan human spaceflight mission, with key missions expected in the coming year. This development highlights India’s growing strength in space technology, satellite services, and scientific innovation.

India Space Economy Growing Faster Than Ever

Speaking about the country’s progress, Dr. Jitendra Singh said India’s space economy is currently valued at around USD 8–9 billion. With policy reforms, private sector participation, and startup growth, the sector is expected to expand nearly five times and reach USD 40–45 billion in the next decade.

The government believes that space technology will become a major contributor to India’s economic growth and technological development.

What are the Reasons Behind the India Space Economy Growth

Several factors are helping India’s space industry grow:

  • Government reforms in the space sector
  • Increased participation of private companies
  • Rising investments in space startups
  • Growing demand for satellite-based services
  • Strong support from ISRO and government agencies

India now has more than 400 space startups, compared to only a handful a few years ago. This shows the rapid expansion of the country’s space ecosystem.

What Is Gaganyaan Spaceflight Programme

Gaganyaan is India’s first human spaceflight programme developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

The mission aims to send Indian astronauts into low-Earth orbit and bring them back safely. Once completed, India will join a small group of nations capable of independently sending humans into space.

Gaganyaan Mission Highlights

  • India’s first human spaceflight programme
  • Developed by ISRO
  • Designed to carry Indian astronauts into space
  • Will test life-support and crew safety systems
  • A major step toward India’s future space station plans

Gaganyaan Mission Expected to Reach Major Milestone

Dr. Jitendra Singh stated that the government is targeting a significant achievement under the Gaganyaan programme next year. The mission is part of India’s broader vision to strengthen its presence in space exploration and advanced technology sectors.

ISRO has been conducting multiple tests related to crew safety systems, recovery operations, and spacecraft technology to prepare for future human spaceflight missions.

Chandrayaan-3 Boosted Public Interest in Space

According to the minister, missions such as Chandrayaan-3 have increased public interest in science and space exploration. These achievements have also improved India’s reputation as a reliable and cost-effective space power.

The success of Indian space missions is encouraging students, startups, researchers, and businesses to participate in the country’s growing innovation ecosystem.
