NHRC Steps In After Chhattisgarh Sakti Power Plant Blast Kills 13 Workers, Seeks Urgent Report from Top Officials

NHRC has taken suo motu action on a deadly boiler explosion in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district that killed 13 workers. Authorities must submit a detailed report within two weeks.

Raipur: The NHRC Chhattisgarh boiler blast case has drawn national attention after the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took suo motu cognizance of a deadly industrial accident. 

The incident, which occurred in a thermal power plant in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district, reportedly led to the death of 13 workers and injuries to 20 others. 

Acting on official reports, the NHRC has issued notices to top state authorities and demanded a detailed report within two weeks, focusing on accountability, compensation, and the health status of the injured workers.

According to the official statement shared by NHRC India, the commission has taken suo motu cognizance of the tragic incident.

This means the commission acted on its own after reviewing credible reports, without waiting for a formal complaint.

NHRC has sent notices to:

  • Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh
  • Director General of Police (DGP)

The commission has asked both officials to submit a detailed report within two weeks.

The accident occurred at a thermal power plant, where a boiler tube explosion caused severe damage.
