Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has laid the foundation stone of a modern sports stadium in Satauj village, to be built at a cost of ₹14.63 crore. The project is aimed at strengthening sports infrastructure and encouraging youth to adopt a healthy and disciplined lifestyle.
The stadium is being developed as part of the state’s broader focus on youth empowerment through sports and social development initiatives.
State-of-the-Art Sports Facility Across 4.38 Acres
The upcoming sports complex will be constructed over an area of 4.38 acres and will feature world-class infrastructure for multiple sporting disciplines.
The facility will include:
- 200-meter athletics track
- Pavilion for players and spectators
- Multipurpose indoor sports hall
Officials said the stadium will be equipped to host training and competitions across several sports at professional standards.

Multiple Sports Disciplines to Be Supported
The modern sports stadium will support training facilities for more than 10 sports, including:
- Badminton
- Handball
- Judo
- Netball
- Basketball
- Volleyball
- Football
- Gymnastics
- Kabaddi
- Karate
The project aims to provide structured training opportunities for young athletes and help them compete at higher levels.
Focus on Youth Development and Drug Prevention
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann highlighted that the initiative is designed not only to promote sports but also to help keep youth away from drug abuse.
He stated that promoting sports culture will help channelize youth energy in a positive direction, strengthen discipline, and improve physical and mental health. The government believes such infrastructure will play a key role in combating social challenges like drug addiction.
Boost to Grassroots Sports Ecosystem
The Punjab government emphasized that the stadium will help transform Satauj village into a local sports hub. It will provide aspiring athletes access to professional coaching and better training facilities.
The Chief Minister added that balanced development between education and sports is essential for building confident and capable youth who can represent the state and country at national and international levels.
