Bengaluru: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), India’s premier aerospace and defence public sector enterprise, has appointed Kota Ravi as its Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) with effect from May 1, 2026. The appointment follows approval from the Ministry of Defence and has been disclosed to BSE and NSE under SEBI regulatory norms.

Kota Ravi succeeds outgoing CMD Dr. D.K. Sunil and will serve until his superannuation on June 30, 2029, or until further government orders.

Leadership Transition at a Key Growth Phase

The leadership change comes at a crucial time for HAL, as the company continues to expand its global footprint and plays a central role in India’s push for self-reliance in defence manufacturing under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

HAL confirmed that Kota Ravi is not related to any board members and is not debarred from holding the office of director by any regulatory authority.

Major Contributions Include:

Strategic Vision as CMD

As CMD, Kota Ravi is expected to lead HAL into its next phase of growth with a strong focus on:

  • Adoption of Artificial Intelligence and advanced technologies
  • Improving operational efficiency and production timelines
  • Expanding global defence partnerships and exports
  • Strengthening India’s indigenous aerospace ecosystem

His leadership comes as HAL manages an order book exceeding ₹1 lakh crore, reflecting strong demand but also operational execution challenges.
