Dehradun: In a major push to improve connectivity and Tourism infrastructure, Uttarakhand is set to appoint BRIDCUL as the regulatory authority for ropeway projects across the state. The decision aims to fast-track key projects in major tourist and pilgrimage destinations.
High-Level Review Led by Chief Secretary
Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan chaired a high-level meeting at the Secretariat to review ongoing ropeway projects, including those in Mussoorie, Kedarnath, and Hemkund Sahib.
He directed officials to prepare a draft framework defining BRIDCUL’s roles and responsibilities at the earliest.
Subcommittee to Prioritize Ropeway Development
To streamline implementation, the government will form a subcommittee under the Principal Secretary (Planning). The panel will include officials from tourism, housing, public works, and the aviation development authority.
This committee will identify priority ropeway projects based on the needs of cities and tourist destinations. Additionally, a ropeway project will be incorporated into the development plan of Jageshwar Dham.
Mussoorie Ropeway Project: Deadline-Driven Execution
Reviewing the Mussoorie ropeway, the Chief Secretary issued strict instructions to resolve issues related to the public access road near the lower terminal within three days. He emphasized that the project must be completed within the stipulated timeline.
Kedarnath Ropeway: Focus on Logistics and Infrastructure
Significant progress is being made on the Kedarnath ropeway project:
- Authorities have been instructed to conduct a logistics dry run
- Sensitive zones will be identified and improved immediately
- Construction of Kund Bridge and a new bypass to be expedited
Officials were also directed to ensure parking facilities, land identification, and transfer processes at the lower terminal are completed quickly.
Hemkund Sahib Ropeway Project Progress
The ropeway project at Hemkund Sahib is also moving forward, with land surveys currently underway. Authorities have been asked to maintain strict timelines and ensure smooth execution.
Use of Modern Project Management Techniques
To ensure timely completion, officials have been directed to implement the PERT method. This will help in monitoring progress and meeting deadlines efficiently.
Agreements Signed, Work in Progress
Officials confirmed that the agreement for the Kedarnath ropeway has already been signed, and technical surveys are in progress. Similarly, groundwork for the Hemkund Sahib project is advancing steadily.
Boost to Tourism and Pilgrimage Connectivity
These ropeway projects are expected to transform accessibility to key religious and tourism destinations, reduce travel time, and enhance visitor experience. The initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening Uttarakhand’s infrastructure and boosting its tourism economy. With BRIDCUL set to take charge as the regulatory authority and multiple projects progressing simultaneously, Uttarakhand is positioning itself as a leader in modern ropeway infrastructure development in India.
