Gandhinagar: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Sunday officially launched the ‘self-enumeration’ process for Census 2027 by filling in his family details on a dedicated online platform, marking the formal beginning of the digital census exercise in the state.

Digital Census 2027 Introduces First-Ever Self-Enumeration System

For the first time in India, Census 2027 will be conducted in a fully digital format using a web portal and mobile-based platform. The self-enumeration system allows citizens to submit their details online from anywhere in a simple, secure and convenient manner.

Officials said the initiative aims to improve accuracy, transparency and efficiency in data collection while making the process citizen-friendly.

Timeline for Self-Enumeration and Census Operations

According to the schedule announced, citizens in Gujarat can participate in the self-enumeration process from 17 May to 31 May 2026, a 15-day window to submit their details online.

Following this phase:

  • 1 June to 30 June 2026: House Listing Operations (HLO) will be conducted
  • More than one lakh census officials will participate in field-level data collection

Authorities said this structured approach will ensure comprehensive and accurate population data collection.

Citizen Participation Encouraged for National Development

Launching the initiative, Bhupendra Patel urged citizens to actively participate in this important national exercise. He said that accurate data collection is essential for planning future development policies and building a stronger and more inclusive nation.

He emphasized that citizen participation will contribute significantly to the vision of a “Developed India.”

Easy, Secure and Accessible Online Platform

The self-enumeration system provides citizens with a user-friendly digital platform where they can securely enter their information. The government has made it possible for people to complete the process conveniently without visiting physical offices.

Citizens can access the portal and complete their self-enumeration within the given timeframe, ensuring timely submission of accurate data.

Gujarat Leads Digital Census Implementation

During the launch, state census officials briefed the Chief Minister on the digital process and presented him with a commemorative token.

With this initiative, Gujarat becomes one of the leading states in implementing digital census operations, aligning with India’s broader push toward e-governance and digital transformation.
