Gandhinagar: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 47 development projects worth ₹620 crore under the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation. The event was held in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
47 Projects Focused on Urban Infrastructure Development
The projects include 21 completed works inaugurated and 26 new projects launched across Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency.
Key sectors covered include:
- Drinking water supply
- Sewerage and sewage treatment
- Roads and transport infrastructure
- Parks and gardens
- Sports infrastructure
- Urban civic amenities
Officials said the initiative aims to strengthen urban infrastructure and improve public service delivery across the region.
Amit Shah Credits Gujarat’s Development Model
Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said Gujarat’s development journey, initiated under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, continues under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.
He said that strong public support for local governance reflects trust in development-focused policies and governance outcomes.
Urban Welfare Projects Across Gandhinagar
Several key civic projects were highlighted during the event, including:
- Drinking water supply expansion in areas like Pethapur
- Construction of libraries and primary/community health centres (PHC/CHC)
- Development of cement roads
- Sewage water treatment systems
- Beautification of lakes
- Provision of clean Narmada water to households
- Development of yoga centres
Authorities said these initiatives aim to transform Gandhinagar into a modern and well-equipped urban centre.
Focus on Clean, Green and Smart City Development
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said the state government is committed to developing clean, green, and sustainable cities. The vision includes:
- Pollution-free cities
- Waste-free urban areas
- Slum-free development
- Expansion of “city economic regions” for surrounding areas
- Large-scale plantation drives
He also said Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation has set a target of planting five lakh trees to enhance green cover.
Key Infrastructure Highlights: Sewage Plant and Yoga Centres
Among the major inaugurated projects was a modern sewage treatment plant in Kolwada, built at a cost of ₹16.11 crore. The plant has a capacity to treat 3 MLD (30 lakh litres) of wastewater daily using ISR technology.
Officials said the facility will help reduce pollution, control foul odour and mosquito breeding, and rejuvenate nearby water bodies such as Kolwada Lake.
Additionally, modern yoga studios developed at Sector-25 and Sargasan at a cost of ₹2.95 crore were inaugurated. These centres include:
- Indoor yoga halls with modern facilities
- Separate changing rooms
- Administrative and training rooms
- Facilities for workshops and International Yoga Day events
These centres are expected to benefit over 2,000 residents.
Healthcare Infrastructure Strengthened in Urban Areas
Urban health centres were also inaugurated in Sector-21, Sector-22 and Sargasan. These centres will provide:
- Primary healthcare services
- Maternal and child healthcare
- Immunisation facilities
- Preventive healthcare support
Officials said the aim is to strengthen grassroots healthcare delivery in urban clusters.
Vision for Long-Term Urban Development
Amit Shah said Gandhinagar is being developed as one of the most well-equipped parliamentary constituencies in the country. He emphasized that the city is being shaped into a modern urban hub with long-term infrastructure planning.
He also credited strong public participation and governance initiatives for the continued development momentum in Gujarat.
