Gujarat Generates 33,706 Million Units of Wind Power

Gujarat has also topped the country in wind-based electricity generation.

During FY 2025-26, the state generated 33,706 million units (MU) of electricity from wind energy. This represents nearly one-third of India’s total wind power generation during the financial year.

The strong generation figures underline the state’s ability to not only develop large-scale wind power capacity but also effectively utilise it for electricity production.

India’s Wind Power Capacity Reaches 57,443 MW

India’s overall wind energy sector has also witnessed significant growth.

As per the data:

  • Total installed wind power capacity in India: 57,443 MW
  • Annual wind power generation in FY 2025-26: 106 billion units
  • Gujarat’s contribution: 33,706 million units of wind power generation

Gujarat’s significant contribution to the national renewable energy sector reflects its commitment to sustainable development, energy security and addressing the challenges posed by climate change.

Gujarat Supports India’s 2030 Renewable Energy Vision

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has been working to reduce its dependence on conventional fuels and expand the use of renewable energy.

The country has set a target of meeting 50% of its electricity requirements from renewable energy sources by 2030.

Gujarat has emerged as a key contributor to this national vision, with strong growth across multiple renewable energy segments, including:

  • Wind energy
  • Solar power
  • Rooftop solar energy

The state’s growing renewable energy capacity is helping support India’s broader transition towards cleaner and more sustainable sources of electricity.

CM Bhupendra Patel’s Leadership Boosts Renewable Energy Growth

Under the leadership of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the state has continued to strengthen its renewable energy ecosystem.

The state’s progress has been supported by:

  • Rapid infrastructure development
  • An investor-friendly ecosystem
  • Progressive renewable energy policies
  • Effective implementation of government initiatives
  • Focus on innovation and clean energy technologies

These factors have helped Gujarat attract investment and establish itself as a major hub for renewable energy development.

Central Government Policies Support Wind Energy Expansion

The central government has introduced several schemes and policy reforms to promote renewable energy across India.

The Green Energy Corridor initiative has supported the development of new transmission lines and substations. This has helped strengthen the infrastructure required for the efficient transmission of electricity generated from renewable energy sources.

Other measures supporting the renewable energy sector include:

  • Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) charge relief, aimed at encouraging investment in renewable energy projects.
  • National Repowering and Life Extension Policy for Wind Power Projects-2023, which promotes the modernisation and repowering of existing wind power projects.
  • Offshore Wind Energy Lease Rules-2023, aimed at creating a framework for offshore wind energy development.
  • Viability Gap Funding scheme for offshore wind projects, designed to support the expansion of India’s offshore wind energy sector.

These policy measures are expected to create new opportunities for investment and accelerate the growth of renewable energy capacity across the country.

Gujarat Successfully Integrates Wind Power Into State Grid

With the effective implementation of central government policies, Gujarat has successfully integrated wind power into its electricity grid.

The state’s experience in developing renewable energy infrastructure and connecting wind power generation to the grid has strengthened its position as a leading clean energy market.

Gujarat was also the first state in India to introduce a dedicated wind energy policy, marking its early leadership in the development of the country’s wind power sector.

Investor-Friendly Policies Create Strong Renewable Energy Ecosystem

Gujarat’s focus on innovation and investor-friendly policies has helped create a strong ecosystem for renewable energy development.

The state has witnessed consistent growth in installed wind power capacity, along with new records in electricity generation.

The development of renewable energy infrastructure has also supported the state’s wider goals of:

  • Promoting sustainable development
  • Improving energy security
  • Increasing clean power generation
  • Reducing dependence on conventional fuels
  • Supporting climate change mitigation efforts

Gujarat’s Renewable Energy Model Sets Example for Other States

Gujarat’s performance in wind energy has strengthened its reputation as a renewable energy leader in India. Its combination of large-scale wind and solar capacity, supportive policies, infrastructure development and investment-friendly initiatives has created a model that can serve as an example for other states.

With 16,086 MW of installed wind capacity and 33,706 million units of wind power generation in FY 2025-26, Gujarat continues to play a significant role in India’s clean energy transition and the country’s long-term renewable energy goals.
