Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Friday carried out a major bureaucratic reshuffle involving 21 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers across key departments and administrative positions.
In a parallel political appointment, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay appointed former Agriculture Minister Ku.Pa. Krishnan as Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB).
The reshuffle includes appointments and transfers involving Additional Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, Commissioners, District Collectors and heads of major state corporations.
Ku.Pa. Krishnan Appointed TNUHDB Chairman
Former AIADMK leader Ku.Pa. Krishnan, who served as Agriculture Minister in the cabinet of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa between 1991 and 1996, has been appointed Chairman of TNUHDB.
After leaving the AIADMK earlier, Krishnan had floated his own political outfit “Tamilar Bhoomi” before rejoining the party. Earlier this year, he joined Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and unsuccessfully contested from the Lalgudi Assembly constituency in the recent elections.
Key IAS Transfers in Tamil Nadu
Among the major transfers:
- Sandhya Venugopal Sharma has been transferred from Additional Chief Secretary and Chairperson of Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation to Additional Chief Secretary, Planning and Development Department.
- J. Kumaragurubaran, former Commissioner of the Greater Chennai Corporation, has been posted as Secretary, Commercial Taxes, Registration and Religious Endowments Department.
- S. Swarna has been redesignated as Principal Secretary, Tourism, Culture and Special Initiatives Department.
- Sandeep Nanduri, Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation, has been posted as Special Secretary, Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce.
Revenue, Labour and Town Planning Departments Reshuffled
- G. Prakash has been appointed Principal Secretary and Additional Commissioner of Revenue Administration at the Commissionerate of Revenue Administration and Disaster Management.
- V. Shobana has been posted as Commissioner of Textiles.
- Shilpa Prabhakar Satish has been transferred as Commissioner of Labour.
- Kiran Gurrala has been appointed Commissioner of Town and Country Planning.
Fisheries, Welfare and Transport Departments See Changes
- K. Vijayakarthikeyan has been appointed Director of Fisheries and will additionally serve as Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development Corporation.
- Mageswari Ravikumar has been posted as Director of Social Welfare.
- K. Senthil Raj has been transferred as Director of Adi Dravidar Welfare.
- D. Baskara Pandian has been appointed Director of Transport and Road Safety.
Fresh Appointments in Environment, Industries and Municipal Administration
- Asha Ajith has been posted as Director of Environment and Climate Change.
- D. Karthikeyan has been appointed Chairman and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation.
- T.G. Vinay has been transferred as Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation.
- Aneesh Sekhar has been posted as Mission Director of the National Health Mission.
- S.A. Raman has been appointed Managing Director of the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu.
- Lalitaditya Neelam has been posted as Commissioner of Salem Municipal Corporation.
District-Level and Administrative Changes
- G. Ravikumar, former District Collector of Karur, has been appointed District Collector of Tirupattur district.
- T. Charusree has been posted as Director of Treasuries and Accounts.
- T. Christuraj has been appointed Director of Survey and Settlement.
- R.V. Shajeevana has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of the Tamil Nadu Rural Transformation Project and given additional charge as Project Director of the Tamil Nadu Women Employment and Safety Project.
Major Administrative Exercise by Tamil Nadu Government
Officials described the reshuffle as a comprehensive administrative exercise aimed at strengthening governance, improving departmental coordination and accelerating implementation of development and infrastructure projects across Tamil Nadu.
The transfer exercise comes shortly after the formation of the new government and is being viewed as an effort to streamline administrative functioning across crucial departments.
