Dr. Raghav Langer, an IAS officer from Jammu & Kashmir and Director at the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, represented India at the International Water Week 2024 held in Daegu, South Korea.

During his tenure on deputation to J&K, Dr. Langer, a 2009-batch IAS officer, held several key positions, including Secretary of Planning, Divisional Commissioner of Jammu, and District Collector of Kathua and Pulwama.

The theme of this year’s International Water Week (KIWW-2024), hosted in the picturesque city of Daegu from November 13–16, was “Building a Smart Water Future by Sharing Experience & Technology.” The event saw participation from representatives of around 60 countries.

The Water Leaders’ Round Table focused on securing high-level commitments and actions based on the Declarations of the World Water Forum. Other notable forums included the World Water Cities Forum and the World Water Partnership, which facilitated collaboration among water sector officials, experts, and industry leaders. Discussions revolved around innovative solutions, best practices, and policies for water management, along with progress made toward achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event featured a comprehensive exhibition showcasing state-of-the-art water technologies, products, and services. Global companies presented innovations such as water efficiency tools, wastewater treatment systems, AI-based water monitoring, desalination technologies, smart water metering, and advanced water infrastructure.

Thematic and bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the conference provided a platform for countries to discuss critical water issues and promote integrated water management. These sessions aimed to foster collaborations among governments, NGOs, businesses, and research institutions. Highlights of the event included the Global Water Awards and the Youth Water Forum Asia, which celebrated exceptional achievements in water innovation and environmental conservation.

Dr. Langer led the Indian delegation with a focus on building global partnerships in the water sector and advancing international efforts toward sustainable water management.
