New Delhi: IFFCO Chairman Dileep Sanghani has been elected as an At-Large Director of the Global Board of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) at the organisation’s General Assembly held in Panama City on September 15, 2026.
The ICA General Assembly elected 15 At-Large Directors from candidates representing different countries for the 2026–2030 mandate. Sanghani was the candidate representing India in the election.
Sanghani Elected to ICA Global Board
Sanghani’s election gives India representation among the At-Large Directors on the ICA Global Board.
The ICA has a 30-member global board, comprising the President, regional Vice Presidents, sectoral representatives, committee representatives and 15 At-Large Directors elected by ICA members.
According to reports following the election, Sanghani secured 526 votes in the September 15 election.
ICA General Assembly Held in Panama
The election took place during the 2026 ICA General Assembly at the Panama Convention Centre in Panama City.
The assembly also saw Dr Ariel Guarco of Argentina re-elected unopposed as ICA President for the new term.
The ICA had announced before the election that its members would elect 15 At-Large Directors from candidates representing multiple countries.
India Gets Representation on Global Cooperative Body
Sanghani’s election provides India with representation on the governing board of the ICA, which represents cooperative organisations across countries and regions.
The ICA Global Board is responsible for areas including:
- Setting policy direction.
- Overseeing financial stability.
- Monitoring organisational performance.
- Risk management and audit oversight.
- Supporting the governance of the global cooperative movement.
Sanghani’s Cooperative Sector Experience
Dileep Sanghani has been associated with the cooperative sector for several decades and currently serves as Chairman of IFFCO. IFFCO’s official information confirms that Sanghani was elected as its Chairman in 2022.
His professional profile also highlights his involvement in cooperative institutions and his experience in areas connected with agriculture, rural development and cooperative governance.
Sanghani Thanks ICA Members and Cooperative Community
Following his election, Sanghani expressed gratitude to ICA member countries, delegates and the global cooperative community.
He said he would work to present the experience and perspective of India’s cooperative movement on the international platform and contribute to strengthening cooperation globally.
The election marks India’s participation in the governance of the ICA for the 2026–2030 term and provides an avenue for Indian cooperative institutions to engage in the organisation’s global policy and governance discussions.
