Mumbai: India has launched two digital platforms aimed at strengthening monitoring, transparency and coordination in climate action, with Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh unveiling the India Net Zero Portal and National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) Dashboard on World Ozone Day 2026.
The platforms provide separate digital mechanisms for tracking voluntary net-zero commitments by entities and monitoring implementation of India’s national climate missions.
Net Zero Portal Opens Platform for Voluntary Commitments
The India Net Zero Portal is a centralised platform where Indian entities can voluntarily register and disclose their net-zero commitments.

Participating organisations can provide information on:
- Greenhouse gas emissions
- Net-zero targets
- Annual progress towards declared targets
- Planned pathways towards net zero
- Measures involving clean energy, energy efficiency, technology and carbon removals
Entities are encouraged to report Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, while reporting of Scope 3 emissions remains voluntary.
Entities that successfully declare their net-zero targets will receive an acknowledgement from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC).
The portal will also provide public access to declarations made by participating entities, organisations and industries, creating a consolidated repository of voluntary net-zero actions.
NAPCC Dashboard to Track National Climate Missions
The NAPCC Dashboard brings together information and identified indicators relating to the implementation of India’s National Missions under the National Action Plan on Climate Change.
The digital platform is intended to provide concerned ministries and departments with a consolidated view of mission-related progress.
The dashboard will support:
- Systematic monitoring of national climate missions
- Inter-ministerial coordination
- Assessment of sectoral progress
- Identification of implementation gaps
- Consolidation of information from ministries and departments
- Evidence-based assessment of climate actions
The dashboard will also provide linkages between India’s domestic climate actions and its international climate commitments.
Two Platforms Target Different Climate-Action Needs
The two digital initiatives serve distinct functions:
- Net Zero Portal: Tracks voluntary net-zero commitments and progress reported by participating entities.
- NAPCC Dashboard: Consolidates information to monitor implementation and progress across India’s national climate missions.
The Ministry said the initiatives reflect the government’s emphasis on technology-enabled governance, transparency, institutional coordination and evidence-based climate action.
Both platforms are now accessible online through their respective government portals.
World Ozone Day
World Ozone Day, observed annually on September 16, commemorates the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer in 1987. The day highlights global efforts to protect the ozone layer and raise awareness about the environmental and health risks associated with ozone-depleting substances.
The United Nations designated September 16 as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer in 1994. The occasion also highlights international cooperation to phase out substances that damage the ozone layer and promote measures that support environmental protection and climate action.
