New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), Dehradun, has organised a one-week Appreciation Course on ‘Forests and Environmental Issues’ for probationers of the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS) from September 7 to 11, 2026.
The programme has been designed to strengthen institutional coordination between the forest department and the railways, while familiarising the incoming generation of railway managers with key aspects of environmental governance, statutory clearances and sustainable infrastructure development.
Focus on Environmental Governance and Statutory Clearances
A key component of the course is to provide IRMS probationers with an understanding of the environmental regulatory framework relevant to railway infrastructure projects.
The programme specifically covers statutory environmental clearances through the PARIVESH system, helping railway officers understand the processes and requirements involved in obtaining necessary approvals for projects that have implications for forests and the environment.
