Indian Masterminds Stories

Raipur: Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Vishnu Deo Sai has unveiled the ‘India Skills Report 2026’, a major national-level document aimed at improving employability, identifying regional skill gaps, and supporting evidence-based policymaking in India’s skilling ecosystem.

The report aligns with the vision of Narendra Modi and the broader objectives of the Skill India Mission.

Focus on Employability and Regional Skill Gaps

The ‘India Skills Report 2026’ provides a detailed analysis of India’s workforce readiness, highlighting employability trends, industry requirements, and skill deficiencies across regions.

This year’s edition includes a special chapter on Chhattisgarh, offering insights into:

  • State-level skill landscape
  • Employment trends and job opportunities
  • Industry-specific workforce demand
  • Existing skill gaps in key sectors

It also recommends policy measures and models for stronger industry-academia collaboration to improve youth employability.

Step Toward Evidence-Based Skill Policy Making

Officials stated that the report marks a significant milestone in India’s transition toward evidence-based policymaking in skill development.

The report has been prepared by researchers at Rungta International Skill University under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Dr. Jawahar Surisetti.

It is expected to serve as a reference document for policymakers, industry leaders, and educational institutions working in the skilling sector.

Integration with Skill India Mission

The report aligns with the Government of India’s Skill India Mission, launched in 2015. The initiative is implemented by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and focuses on enhancing the skills of India’s workforce.

Key schemes under the mission include:

  • Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)
  • Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS)
  • National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS)
  • Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS) in ITIs

These programs aim to provide skill, re-skill, and up-skill training across various sectors.

CM Highlights Education and Healthcare Growth in Chhattisgarh

Speaking at the launch, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said that the establishment of prestigious educational institutions is creating new opportunities for youth.

He also highlighted that the expansion of healthcare services is helping the state move towards becoming a “Medical Tourism Hub,” further strengthening its economic and employment landscape.

Annual Report to Track India’s Skill Landscape

Officials announced that the India Skills Report will be published annually, with each edition focusing on a different state to provide a comprehensive understanding of India’s evolving skill ecosystem. This approach will help track regional progress and guide future policy decisions at both state and national levels.

Expert View on Policy Impact

Vice Chancellor Dr. Jawahar Surisetti said the report is expected to evolve into a key national policy document. He emphasized that the aim is to support informed decision-making across government, industry, and academic institutions, ensuring that skill development is linked directly to livelihood creation and employment outcomes.

Strengthening India’s Future Workforce

With the launch of the India Skills Report 2026, Chhattisgarh has positioned itself as an active contributor to India’s skill development roadmap. The report is expected to play a crucial role in shaping future policies, improving employability, and bridging the gap between education and industry needs across the country.
