Indian Masterminds Stories

Chandigarh: In a significant administrative decision, the Central Government has approved the inter-cadre transfer of Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Aditi Singh from the Himachal Pradesh cadre to the Haryana cadre on the grounds of marriage. The 2021-batch officer’s transfer was cleared with the concurrence of both the Himachal Pradesh and Haryana governments.

The move comes following her marriage to Vivek Arya, also a 2021-batch IPS officer belonging to the Haryana cadre, in line with established service rules that allow inter-cadre transfers for All India Service officers under specific conditions, including marriage.

Professional Journey and Background

Ms Singh, originally from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, has quickly established herself as a dedicated and promising officer within the police service. She completed her schooling at Sofiya Girls School in Kankar Kheda, Shivlokpuri. Coming from a family with a strong professional background, her father, Sanjeev Singh, is a doctor, while her mother, Jyoti Singh, served as a senior assistant in the district collectorate.

She secured an All India Rank of 679 in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination and joined the IPS in the 2021 batch—remarkably achieving this feat in her first attempt. Notably, she prepared for the highly competitive examination during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Key Roles and Contributions in Himachal Pradesh

During her tenure in the Himachal Pradesh cadre, Aditi Singh held several important assignments. She served as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in the State Vigilance & Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV&ACB), Northern Range, Dharamshala, where she played a crucial role in handling sensitive vigilance matters.

Prior to this, she worked as the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Dharamshala and was also posted in Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district. Her policing approach has been marked by a strong emphasis on field-level engagement and enforcement.

Focus on Anti-Drug Campaigns

One of the defining aspects of Ms Singh’s career has been her sustained focus on combating drug abuse and narcotics trafficking in Himachal Pradesh. She has been widely recognized for her commitment to reducing drug addiction, a growing concern in the hill state.

Her efforts in this domain have included active participation in awareness drives, enforcement operations, and coordination with various agencies to curb the spread of narcotics.

Representation at National Events

Aditi Singh has also represented the Himachal Pradesh Police at national-level platforms. She participated in the Police Commemoration Day event held at Hot Springs in Ladakh, reflecting her involvement in significant institutional engagements beyond routine policing duties.

Recent Developments

In early 2026, reports indicated that IPS Singh was on leave for 25 days, from January 8 to February 22. During this period, her responsibilities were handled by ASP Braham Dass Bhatia, who was given additional charge of her duties.

A Transition to Haryana Cadre

With her transfer now approved, Aditi Singh is set to begin a new chapter in her career within the Haryana cadre. The move is expected to bring both administrative continuity and personal stability, as she joins her spouse Vivek Arya in the same cadre.

Inter-cadre transfers on marriage grounds are a well-established provision aimed at supporting work-life balance among All India Service officers, while ensuring that administrative requirements are met through mutual agreement between the concerned states.
