1990 batch IPS officer of Haryana cadre, Mr. Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor, will be the new DGP of Haryana. He will succeed PK Agarwal, who retired on 15 August. Mr. Kapoor is the junior most in the list of three IPS officers empanelled by the UPSC and will have a minimum tenure of two years as mandated by the Supreme Court.
Mr. Kapoor, who holds the charge of DG, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of the state, may continue to keep the post. His proximity to CM Khattar seems to have made him the obvious choice for DGP. The CM picked him superseding two 1990-batch IPS officers, Muhammad Akil and RC Mishra.
He takes over at a time when the state is heading for polls, both Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, probably the most challenging time for any police chief of a state. He will also have to deal with communal tensions and ensure a Nuh-like situation does not recur.
Mr. Kapoor, who hails from Jind, Haryana, has done B.Tech in Mechanical Enginnering. He joined Haryana Police in September 1991. He will retire in 2026.
