New Delhi: In a significant reshuffle in Delhi’s top law enforcement leadership, senior IPS officer SBK Singh has been appointed as the Director General (Prisons) of Delhi. This follows his brief tenure as the Delhi Police Commissioner, a position he held for just 21 days.

An official order issued by the Delhi Government stated-

“S.B.K. Singh, IPS (AGMUT: 1988), Director General (Home Guards), is transferred and posted as Director General (Prisons) with immediate effect.”

A Short and Unusual Stint as Delhi’s Top Cop

SBK Singh assumed the additional charge of Delhi Police Commissioner on July 31, 2025. His brief leadership ended on August 21, making it one of the shortest tenures in the capital’s police history. He is a 1988-batch IPS officer from the AGMUT cadre and had previously served as Director General of Home Guards.

His move to the Delhi Prisons Department places him at the helm of one of the most sensitive arms of Delhi’s law enforcement – overseeing Tihar Jail, Mandoli, and Rohini jails, and focusing on prison security and reforms.

Satish Golcha Takes Over as Delhi Police Commissioner

With SBK Singh’s reassignment, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed Satish Golcha, a 1992-batch IPS officer, as the new Commissioner of Police, Delhi. Golcha was previously serving as Director General (Prisons).

According to the official order:

“With the approval of the Competent Authority, Sh. Satish Golcha, IPS (AGMUT: 1992), presently posted as Director General (Prisons), Delhi, is hereby appointed to the post of the Commissioner of Police, Delhi with effect from the date of assumption of charge and until further orders.

Mr Golcha steps into the role during a critical juncture, following a security breach involving Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, who was attacked during a Jan Sunwai programme in Civil Lines.

Security Upped for Delhi CM After Attack

The recent attack on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has sparked concerns about the capital’s security framework. Following the incident, the Union Government approved Z-category VIP security cover for the CM, providing enhanced protection for her, her official residence, and workplace.

Golcha’s appointment is seen as a move to stabilize and strengthen the city’s security machinery amid growing threats and public unrest.
