New Delhi: The Government of India has extended the tenure of Ajay Kumar Sahani, IRSME (2008), as Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited (IREDA), Delhi.
The extension has been approved for two years beyond October 15, 2026, up to October 15, 2028, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The decision was conveyed by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, following a proposal from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).
Ajay Kumar Sahani to Continue as IREDA CVO
With the government approving the extension, Sahani will continue to serve as the Chief Vigilance Officer of IREDA during the extended tenure.
As CVO, his role is associated with strengthening vigilance and promoting integrity and transparency within the organisation.
The extension ensures continuity in the vigilance administration of IREDA for the next two years.

Extensive Experience in Indian Railways
Before taking up his current responsibilities, Sahani served in several technical and operational roles in Indian Railways.
During his railway career, he gained experience in areas including:
- Maintenance of railway wagons
- Operation and maintenance of 140-ton rail cranes
- Supervision of accident relief trains
- Management of accident relief medical vans
- Crew management
- Maintenance and operation of diesel locomotives
- Installation and maintenance of sophisticated CNC wheel turning and axle turning lathe machines
His experience covers both technical operations and railway asset maintenance.
Served Across Multiple Railway Organisations
Sahani has served across several railway organisations and regions during his career, including:
- Eastern Railway
- South East Central Railway
- North Central Railway
- Banaras Locomotive Works
His service across these organisations has provided him with experience in different operational and technical environments within the railway sector.
Educational Qualification
Ajay Kumar Sahani holds a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Jorhat Engineering College, Assam.
His mechanical engineering background, combined with extensive experience in railway operations and maintenance, has contributed to his professional career across technical and administrative responsibilities.
Two-Year Extension Approved
The government’s order extends Sahani’s tenure as IREDA CVO from October 15, 2026, to October 15, 2028.
The extension will remain effective until the specified date or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
His continued tenure is expected to provide institutional continuity in vigilance-related functions at IREDA as the agency works within India’s renewable energy financing and development ecosystem.
