Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is exploring new opportunities to strengthen its education infrastructure and bring international-standard schooling to the state. As part of this effort, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav discussed the possibility of setting up international-standard K-12 school campuses in Indore and Bhopal during his meeting with GEMS Education Chairman and Founder Sunny Varkey in Dubai.

The meeting took place on September 8, the third day of the AIM Congress 2026 (Annual Investment Meeting). CM Yadav outlined Madhya Pradesh’s education policy and highlighted the scope for investment and innovation in the state’s education sector.

The proposed expansion could bring modern school infrastructure, new curriculum options, skill-based learning and technology-enabled education to students in the state’s major and developing cities.

MP Explores International-Standard School Infrastructure

During the meeting, discussions focused on the possibility of establishing K-12 school campuses in major and emerging cities of Madhya Pradesh. Indore and Bhopal have emerged as the cities where the company has shown interest in opening schools.

The proposed campuses would not focus only on conventional classroom education. The plan includes skill development and learning programmes aligned with the changing requirements of students and the future job market.

For Madhya Pradesh, such projects could add to the state’s existing education infrastructure and provide students with exposure to modern teaching practices and learning systems.

Focus on Skills, STEM and Artificial Intelligence

A major part of the proposed education model is the integration of technology and future-oriented skills into school education.

The planned programmes could cover areas such as:

  •  STEM education
  •  Artificial intelligence
  •  Coding
  •  Entrepreneurship
  •  Other future-ready skills

Technology-enabled classrooms would also form part of the proposed school model.

The focus is significant as education systems increasingly need to prepare students not only for examinations but also for higher education, employment and a technology-driven economy.

National and International curriculum

The proposed schools could adopt national as well as international curriculum, depending on local requirements and the future learning needs of students.

This approach could provide families in Madhya Pradesh with greater access to diverse educational models within the state, while retaining flexibility to address local needs.

The discussions also covered Sandipani Schools, indicating a broader focus on strengthening school education and developing new approaches to learning in Madhya Pradesh.

Teacher Training to Strengthen Education Quality

The proposed initiative also includes a focus on teachers and school leadership.

GEMS Education plans to undertake teacher training and school leadership development as part of its proposed education model. This could help educators adapt to technology-enabled classrooms, new curricula and skill-based teaching.

Strengthening teacher capacity is particularly important when schools introduce areas such as artificial intelligence, coding and STEM alongside traditional subjects.

The initiative therefore has the potential to combine infrastructure development with improvements in teaching quality and institutional management.

CM Highlights MP’s Education Potential

During the meeting, CM Mohan Yadav highlighted the changes taking place in Madhya Pradesh’s education sector following the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP).

He said the state is undertaking various innovations in education and presented Madhya Pradesh as a potential destination for investment in the sector.

The state’s efforts to attract investment in education are part of a wider development strategy aimed at strengthening infrastructure and creating better opportunities for students.

CM Yadav also invited Sunny Varkey to participate in the Global Investors Summit (GIS) 2027. The state hopes that continued engagement with international education organisations can lead to more concrete investment and development projects.

GEMS Education’s Global Experience

GEMS Education Chairman Sunny Varkey explained that the organisation operates a network of K-12 schools across several countries and focuses on quality education, teacher development and educational innovation.

Established in 2000, the organisation has operations across the Middle East, Asia, Europe and North America, with its headquarters in Dubai.

Its experience in operating schools under different curricula could support the proposed introduction of new education models in Madhya Pradesh.

What This Could Mean for MP’s Education Sector

The proposed school campuses represent an opportunity to expand the range of education infrastructure available in Madhya Pradesh, particularly in rapidly developing cities such as Indore and Bhopal.

If implemented, the initiative could bring together modern school facilities, technology-based learning, skill development, teacher training and international education practices.

More importantly, attracting investment into education can contribute to the state’s broader development goals by strengthening human capital. Better access to skills and modern learning can help students prepare for higher education, emerging careers and a changing economy.

The discussions at AIM Congress 2026 therefore form part of Madhya Pradesh’s wider effort to use investment and partnerships to improve education infrastructure and create better opportunities for the state’s young population.
