Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren chaired a high-level meeting to review ongoing urban development works across Jharkhand, directing officials to ensure timely completion of all citizen-centric infrastructure projects without delays.
During the meeting of the Urban Development and Housing Department, the Chief Minister emphasized that urban development is not limited to building roads and infrastructure, but is primarily aimed at improving the quality of life of citizens.
Focus on Timely Completion of Civic Infrastructure Projects
CM Soren issued a clear warning that delays in public utility projects such as roads, drainage systems, water supply, traffic management, and sanitation will not be tolerated.
He instructed officials to ensure that all government schemes reach citizens on time and that continuous monitoring mechanisms are strengthened across departments.
Strict Action Against Encroachment on Water Bodies
The Chief Minister expressed serious concern over increasing encroachments around rivers, ponds, dams, drains, and other water bodies in urban areas.
He directed urban local bodies to:
- Identify illegal constructions
- Issue immediate notices
- Initiate legal action against encroachers
- Remove unauthorized structures where necessary
He stressed that protecting water bodies is essential for maintaining drainage systems and environmental balance.
Special Emphasis on Kanke Dam Protection
A detailed discussion was held on the conservation of Kanke Dam in Ranchi.
The Chief Minister directed officials to:
- Prepare a comprehensive protection plan
- Stop drains from directly flowing into the dam
- Survey and demarcate catchment areas
- Prevent household wastewater from entering the reservoir
He also emphasized the importance of ensuring clean drinking water supply through pipelines to all urban households.
Push for Smart City and Urban Infrastructure Development
Reviewing the Ranchi Smart City project, CM Soren directed officials to expedite land acquisition processes and strengthen key infrastructure projects such as:
- Sewage treatment plants (STPs)
- Water supply systems
- Traffic management systems
- Solid waste management facilities
He also stressed improving public transport systems and exploring new revenue sources for urban bodies.
Solar Energy Development Along Ring Roads
To promote green and sustainable development, the Chief Minister directed the implementation of solar energy infrastructure along ring roads across Jharkhand, including Ranchi.
The plan includes:
- Installation of solar panels
- Solar street lighting systems
- Expansion of clean energy infrastructure
He asked officials to present the proposal to the cabinet within 15 days for early implementation.
Strengthening Waste Management and Environmental Protection
CM Soren emphasized mandatory waste management systems in residential societies, apartments, hotels, and housing complexes, including:
- Segregation of wet and dry waste
- Rainwater harvesting systems
- Wastewater treatment mechanisms
He also called for modern scientific disposal of legacy waste, particularly at major dumping sites like Jhiri in Ranchi.
Monsoon Preparedness and Urban Safety Measures
Ahead of the monsoon season, the Chief Minister directed authorities to:
- Trim roadside trees to prevent accidents
- Improve street lighting systems
- Address waterlogging issues permanently
- Enhance digital monitoring of urban projects
He also reviewed sewage treatment systems in Sahibganj, Rajmahal, and Dhanbad through online monitoring.
Push for Efficient and Sustainable Urban Growth in Jharkhand
The meeting highlighted the state government’s strong focus on timely execution, environmental protection, and smart urban planning. CM Hemant Soren reiterated that all development efforts must directly improve public services and urban living standards across Jharkhand.
