Ranchi: The Jharkhand government on Thursday presented its first supplementary budget of ₹8,399.31 crore for the financial year 2026-27 during the second day of the Monsoon Session of the State Assembly. The additional budget focuses on strengthening rural development, education, healthcare, drinking water, infrastructure, disaster management and social welfare.
The government has proposed ₹7,256.25 crore as revenue expenditure and ₹1,143.06 crore as capital expenditure, aimed at supporting development projects and improving public services across the state.
Rural Development Gets the Biggest Share
The Rural Development Department received the largest allocation of ₹4,258.67 crore, accounting for over half of the supplementary budget.
Other major allocations include:
- Primary & Adult Education: ₹946.31 crore
- ST, SC, Minority & Backward Class Welfare: ₹912.45 crore
- Rural Works Department: ₹885.83 crore
- Home, Jail & Disaster Management: ₹490.69 crore
These allocations are expected to strengthen welfare schemes, rural infrastructure and public service delivery.

Health, Drinking Water and Tourism Receive Additional Funds
Several social and infrastructure departments have also received additional funding.
Key allocations include:
- Drinking Water & Sanitation – ₹271.61 crore
- Panchayati Raj – ₹244.80 crore
- Health, Medical Education & Family Welfare – ₹218.17 crore
- Mines & Geology – ₹173.65 crore
- IT & e-Governance – ₹66.53 crore
- Finance – ₹56.96 crore
- Tourism – ₹36.76 crore
- Urban Development & Housing – ₹20.21 crore
- Water Resources – ₹18.06 crore
The government expects these allocations to improve essential public services and support infrastructure development.
Capital Expenditure to Accelerate Infrastructure
The supplementary budget places significant emphasis on capital expenditure.
The Rural Works Department has received ₹885.83 crore under the capital head, while additional allocations include:
- Drinking Water & Sanitation – ₹69.94 crore
- Tourism – ₹34.87 crore
- ST, SC & Backward Class Welfare – ₹33.39 crore
- Urban Development – ₹11.15 crore
- Health Department – ₹10 crore
These funds are expected to speed up road construction, drinking water projects, public buildings and other infrastructure works across Jharkhand.
Appropriation Bill to Follow
Following discussions on the supplementary demands for grants, the government will introduce the Appropriation Bill in the Assembly. Once approved, the concerned departments will receive statutory authority to utilise the additional funds.
The supplementary budget underlines the state’s focus on rural growth, improved public services and infrastructure development while supporting long-term economic and social development.
