Jharkhand Gets Major Air Connectivity Boost as Six Airports Selected Under UDAN Scheme, ₹122.04 Crore Approved 

Bokaro, Dumka, Jamshedpur, Hazaribagh, Deoghar and Daltonganj airports included under RCS-UDAN development plan as the Centre aims to expand regional air connectivity and add 120 new destinations in 10 years.

Ranchi: The Ministry of Civil Aviation has selected six airports in Jharkhand for development under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) – UDAN (Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik) to improve regional air connectivity in the state.

The information was shared by the Central Government in response to a question raised by Rajya Sabha MP Parimal Nathwani. Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol informed the Rajya Sabha about the progress of airport development projects in Jharkhand.

The six selected airports include Bokaro, Dumka, Jamshedpur, Hazaribagh, Deoghar, and Daltonganj.

Six Jharkhand Airports Selected Under UDAN Scheme

Under the Regional Connectivity Scheme, the government has identified six airports in Jharkhand for infrastructure development and improved air connectivity.

Selected airports include:

  • Bokaro Airport
  • Dumka Airport
  • Jamshedpur Airport
  • Hazaribagh Airport
  • Deoghar Airport
  • Daltonganj Airport

The initiative aims to expand regional air services and provide better connectivity to people in different parts of the state.

Jamshedpur and Deoghar Airports Already Operational

According to the Civil Aviation Ministry, two airports from the selected list have already become operational after development work.

Current status of airports:

  • Jamshedpur Airport – Operational
  • Deoghar Airport – Operational
  • Bokaro Airport – Development work completed
  • Dumka Airport – Development work completed
  • Hazaribagh Airport – Land not provided by the state government
  • Daltonganj Airport – Land not provided by the state government

The minister said that further progress on Hazaribagh and Daltonganj airports depends on land availability from the state government.

₹122.04 Crore Approved for Jharkhand Airport Infrastructure Development

The Union Minister informed the Rajya Sabha that the government has approved ₹122.04 crore for airport infrastructure development in Jharkhand.

Financial details:

  • Total approved amount: ₹122.04 crore
  • Amount spent so far: ₹117.61 crore

The funds have been utilised for improving airport infrastructure and supporting regional connectivity initiatives.

Government Plans Expansion of Regional Air Connectivity Across India

Responding to MP Parimal Nathwani’s question, the Civil Aviation Ministry also shared details about the future expansion plans under the UDAN scheme.

The government has launched a revised UDAN scheme on 4 July 2026 to further strengthen regional air connectivity across the country.

Key targets under the revised UDAN scheme:

  • Addition of 120 new destinations over the next 10 years
  • Providing air travel facilities to around 4 crore passengers
  • Expansion of affordable air connectivity to smaller cities and towns

UDAN Scheme Aims to Connect More Small Cities and Regions

The Regional Connectivity Scheme was launched to make air travel accessible to common citizens and improve connectivity between smaller cities and major urban centres.

The development of Jharkhand airports under the scheme is expected to:

  • Improve passenger connectivity
  • Support tourism growth
  • Boost trade and business activities
  • Create new economic opportunities
  • Strengthen regional infrastructure

Jharkhand Air Connectivity Gets Major Push

The selection of six airports under the UDAN scheme marks an important step towards expanding aviation infrastructure in Jharkhand.

With two airports already operational, two completing development work, and further plans dependent on land availability, the Centre’s initiative is expected to enhance air connectivity and support economic growth across the state.
