Ranchi: Five final-year BTech students from Dumka Engineering College have developed an AI-enabled autonomous water-cleaning robot that will be deployed at the Shiv Ganga pond in Basukinath Dham during the upcoming Shravani Mela. The innovative project aims to remove floating waste, reduce manual cleaning efforts, and demonstrate the practical application of engineering technology for environmental conservation.
The robot, named “Nature’s Revival Bot – Autonomous Water Cleaning Robot,” was initially developed as a final-year engineering project. After months of research and development, the student innovation is now moving from an academic assignment to a real-world environmental solution.
AI-Powered Robot Designed for Automatic Water Cleaning
The autonomous water-cleaning robot has been designed to collect floating waste from the surface of ponds and other water bodies. It uses a motor-driven conveyor system that collects garbage floating on the water and transfers it into a dedicated waste collection bucket.
The robot is equipped with advanced sensors that help it detect obstacles and navigate safely while operating on water. The AI-enabled system allows the machine to perform cleaning operations with minimum human intervention, making it more efficient for maintaining public water spaces.
Five Engineering Students Developed the Robot in Five Months
The innovative cleaning system was developed by a team of five final-year BTech students from Dumka Engineering College, Jharkhand. The students worked continuously for around five months to design, build and test the robot.
The main objective behind the project was to create a practical technology-based solution that could reduce dependence on manual cleaning, especially during large public gatherings where waste management becomes a major challenge.
The project reflects how student-led engineering innovations can be transformed into solutions that address environmental and social needs.
Advanced Motors and Sensors Used in the Water Cleaning System
The robot uses multiple motors and electronic components to perform different functions, including movement, steering and waste collection.
The major technologies used in the system include:
- Brushless DC hub motor: Powers the propeller and enables movement of the robot on water.
- Gear motor: Drives the conveyor mechanism used for collecting floating waste.
- Servo motor: Controls the steering system and helps change direction.
- Photoelectric sensors: Detect obstacles and prevent collisions during operation.
The combination of these components allows the robot to move efficiently while collecting waste from water surfaces.
Robot Deployment Planned During Shravani Mela at Shiv Ganga Pond
The AI-powered robot will be deployed at Shiv Ganga pond during the annual Shravani Mela, which begins on July 30. Before its official use, the project team will conduct a demonstration to showcase the robot’s working capabilities.
The deployment during the pilgrimage event is expected to help maintain cleanliness at the pond, which witnesses a large number of visitors during the festival period.

The development of “Nature’s Revival Bot” highlights the role of engineering students in creating technology-based solutions for environmental problems.
