New Delhi: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended around a dozen additional judgesfor appointment as permanent judges in four High Courts of the country.
The recommendations, made on September 23, 2026, cover the Kerala High Court, Andhra Pradesh High Court, Gauhati High Court and Uttarakhand High Court.
The Kerala and Andhra Pradesh High Courts account for the bulk of the recommendations, with five additional judges each recommended for permanent appointment. One judge each has been recommended for the Gauhati and Uttarakhand High Courts.
The recommendations will now proceed through the prescribed process for appointment to the permanent posts.
Five Additional Judges Recommended for Kerala High Court
The Collegium has recommended the appointment of the following five additional judges of the Kerala High Court as permanent judges:
- Justice P Krishna Kumar
- Justice K V Jayakumar
- Justice Muralee Krishna S
- Justice Jobin Sebastian
- Justice P V Balakrishnan
With these recommendations, five additional judges serving in the Kerala High Court have been proposed for continuation as permanent judges.

Five Judges Recommended for Andhra Pradesh High Court
The Andhra Pradesh High Court has also received five recommendations for appointment as permanent judges.
The names recommended are:
- Justice Maheswara Rao Kuncheam
- Justice Thoota Chandra Dhana Sekar
- Justice Challa Gunaranjan
- Justice Avadhanam Hari Haranadha Sarma
- Justice Yadavalli Lakshmana Rao
The five recommendations constitute the largest set of recommendations for the Andhra Pradesh High Court in the latest round.
Justice Kaushik Goswami Recommended for Gauhati High Court
For the Gauhati High Court, the Collegium has recommended Justice Kaushik Goswami for appointment as a permanent judge.
Justice Goswami is the sole recommendation from the Gauhati High Court in this round.
Justice Subhash Upadhyay Recommended for Uttarakhand High Court
For the Uttarakhand High Court, the Collegium has recommended Justice Subhash Upadhyay for appointment as a permanent judge.
He is the only judge recommended for permanent appointment from the Uttarakhand High Court in the September 23 recommendations.
12 Recommendations Across Four High Courts
The latest recommendations cover 12 additional judges across four High Courts.
The distribution is:
- Kerala High Court — 5
- Andhra Pradesh High Court — 5
- Gauhati High Court — 1
- Uttarakhand High Court — 1
The recommendations were made by the Supreme Court Collegium on September 23, 2026, and relate to the elevation of the named additional judges to permanent positions in their respective High Courts.
