The decision was taken after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved a proposal for extending his central deputation tenure.

According to the order dated August 29, 2026, the tenure of K S Rejimon (ISS:1998), Joint Secretary, NITI Aayog, has been extended for a period of one year beyond September 8, 2026.

The extension follows a proposal from NITI Aayog and has been approved by the ACC.

His continuation comes as he remains involved in policy and development programmes handled by the government’s apex public policy think tank.

K S Rejimon is a senior Indian Statistical Service officer who joined government service in September 1998 after entering the ISS.

Born on May 14, 1973, Rejimon belongs to the 1998 batch of the Indian Statistical Service and has spent his career working in areas involving statistics, data, policy planning, administration and development programmes.

Over the course of his career, he has served in different capacities under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) and other government organisations and ministries.

His career progression has included positions ranging from Deputy Director to Director (NFSG) and subsequently Deputy Director General.

His experience in statistical administration and policy-related work has also played a role in his later assignment at NITI Aayog, where data-driven policy planning and monitoring form an important part of the institution’s work.

K S Rejimon’s Service Details

Some of the key service details of the officer are:

  • Name: K S Rejimon
  • Service: Indian Statistical Service (ISS)
  • Batch: 1998
  • Date of entry into service: September 1, 1998
  • Date of birth: May 14, 1973
  • Current position: Joint Secretary, NITI Aayog
  • Initial NITI Aayog appointment: 2021
  • Latest extension: One year beyond September 8, 2026

Appointment to NITI Aayog in 2021

Rejimon was appointed as Joint Secretary at NITI Aayog in August 2021.

The ACC approved his appointment to the post for an initial tenure of five years.

The assignment brought his statistical and policy experience into an institution responsible for advising the Centre and states on a wide range of development and governance issues.

Since joining NITI Aayog, he has handled responsibilities covering several important programmes and administrative areas.

Mission Director for Aspirational Districts and Blocks

One of Rejimon’s important responsibilities at NITI Aayog is his association with the Aspirational Districts Programme and Aspirational Blocks Programme.

The programmes focus on accelerating development in regions that lag behind on key socioeconomic indicators.

The Aspirational Districts Programme uses data and outcome-based monitoring to encourage improvements in areas such as health and nutrition, education, agriculture and water resources, financial inclusion and skill development, and basic infrastructure.

The Aspirational Blocks Programme extends a similar approach to the block level, with an emphasis on improving development outcomes in some of India’s most underserved areas.

As Mission Director associated with these programmes, Rejimon’s role involves monitoring implementation and coordinating efforts aimed at improving development indicators across the targeted regions.

Responsibilities Across Social Sectors

Apart from the Aspirational Districts and Blocks programmes, Rejimon has also been assigned responsibilities in the social sector.

His portfolio includes matters relating to Social Justice and Empowerment and the Voluntary Action Cell.

These responsibilities place him at the intersection of government policy, social development and coordination with various stakeholders involved in implementing development initiatives.

His background in statistics and data-oriented government work is particularly relevant to programmes that rely on measurable outcomes and continuous monitoring.

Role in Governance and State Coordination

Rejimon’s responsibilities at NITI Aayog also extend to areas connected with governance and state-level policy coordination.

His portfolio includes general administration, State Support Missions and coordination with states.

NITI Aayog works closely with state governments on policy formulation, development strategies and implementation of programmes. Officers handling state-support responsibilities therefore play an important role in maintaining coordination between the Centre and states.

Through these assignments, Rejimon has been involved in both programme-specific responsibilities and broader administrative and policy functions.

Career Built Around Statistics and Policy

Rejimon’s career reflects the expanding role of the Indian Statistical Service in government policy and administration.

ISS officers are trained in statistics, data analysis and related areas that support evidence-based decision-making. Over the years, Rejimon has moved from statistical and analytical responsibilities in government departments to senior policy and administrative assignments.

His progression through positions such as Deputy Director, Director (NFSG) and Deputy Director General preceded his deputation to NITI Aayog.

The move to NITI Aayog gave him a broader policy role, where data, monitoring and development outcomes are central to several major government programmes.

One-Year Extension Keeps Rejimon at NITI Aayog Beyond September 2026

With the latest ACC approval, K S Rejimon will continue as Joint Secretary at NITI Aayog for another year beyond September 8, 2026.

His extension ensures continuity in the programmes and portfolios under his charge, particularly the Aspirational Districts and Blocks initiatives and his responsibilities relating to social sectors, governance and state coordination.

For a senior ISS officer with extensive experience in statistical administration and development policy, the continuation also underscores the importance of specialised domain expertise in policy institutions such as NITI Aayog.
