Karnataka Recommends 13 IPS Officers, 40 Police Personnel for President’s Police Medals

The Karnataka government has recommended 40 police officers and personnel, including 13 IPS officers, for the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and Police Medal for Meritorious Service to be announced on Independence Day.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has recommended 40 police officers and personnel, including 13 IPS officers, for the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPMDS) and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PMMS) to be conferred on the occasion of Independence Day 2026.

The recommendations were forwarded by the Home Department to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA)after receiving proposals from the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP), Karnataka.

Two IPS Officers Recommended for President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service

In the IPS category, the state government has recommended two senior officers for the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPMDS):

  • Dr Harishekaran P, Additional Director General of Police, Crime and Technical Services.
  • Ravi S, Additional Director General of Police, Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP).

Five Non-IPS Officers Also Recommended for Distinguished Service Medal

The government has also nominated five non-IPS police officers for the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service:

  • M.N. Karibasavana Gouda, Superintendent of Police, DCRE, Bengaluru.
  • Mahadeva Prasad, Commandant, 4th Battalion, Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF), Mysuru.
  • Dharmendra Huccha, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), CCB, Bengaluru City.
  • Shashidhara Devaraju, Police Inspector.
  • Dr Sudhakar Bhimasha Sangolagikar, Police Inspector.

11 IPS Officers Recommended for Police Medal for Meritorious Service

The state has also recommended the following 11 IPS officers for the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PMMS):

  • Dr P.S. Harsha, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ballari Range.
  • N. Shashi Kumar, Commissioner of Police, Hubballi-Dharwad City.
  • Dr Y.S. Ravikumar, Inspector General of Police, CID.
  • Hanumantharaya, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Karnataka State Human Rights Commission.
  • D. Devaraj, Deputy Inspector General (Training).
  • Dr K. Dharani Devi, Deputy Inspector General, State Intelligence.
  • Girish Shivappa Sanner, Deputy Inspector General, Central Range.
  • Chandrakanth M.V., Deputy Inspector General and Director, Karnataka Police Academy, Mysuru.
  • Sara Fathima, Deputy Inspector General, Cyber Command.
  • Vishnuvardhana N., Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru District.
  • H.D. Ananda Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Railways, Bengaluru.

Recommendations Sent to Union Home Ministry

The recommendations have been submitted by the Karnataka Home Department to the Ministry of Home Affairs after scrutiny of proposals forwarded by the state’s DG&IGP.

The final list of awardees for the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service will be announced by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs ahead of Independence Day 2026.
