Hyderabad: Trainee IPS officer Uday Krishna Reddy (2025 batch) was arrested on the outskirts of Hyderabad after police launched a manhunt in connection with a sexual harassment case registered on the complaint of a fellow IPS trainee at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA).

Police took Reddy into custody after he allegedly remained untraceable for several days following his discharge from a hospital, where he had been admitted earlier this month.

Complaint by Fellow IPS Trainee

The case was registered at Attapur Police Station on July 18 after a woman IPS trainee accused Reddy of sexual harassment and blackmail.

According to the complaint, the accused allegedly sent her obscene messages and threatened to steal her mobile phone. Based on the allegations, police registered a case under relevant provisions of law.

Police Launch Manhunt

Following the registration of the case, investigators attempted to serve notices to Reddy. However, police said he could not be located at either of the addresses provided by him, while his mobile phone remained switched off.

As a result, four special police teams were constituted to trace him. He was eventually taken into custody on the outskirts of Hyderabad after an intensive search operation.

Senior Officers Assigned to Probe

The investigation has been entrusted to senior officers.

Charminar Women’s Police Station Circle Inspector Jyotsna has been appointed as the Investigating Officer.
DCP Lavanya of the Women’s Safety Department will supervise the investigation.
Rajendranagar DCP Srinivas stated that the investigation is being conducted in a fair and transparent manner.

High Court to Hear Plea

Meanwhile, Uday Krishna Reddy has approached the Telangana High Court seeking to quash the FIR registered against him.

The petition, filed on July 21, is scheduled for hearing on Wednesday. During an earlier hearing, the court adjourned the matter after the Additional Public Prosecutor sought time to place relevant details on record.

Social Media Post and Hospitalisation

Following the registration of the case, Reddy posted on Instagram claiming that the allegations and campaign against him were false. He stated that he had full faith in the judicial process and expressed confidence that justice would prevail.

Subsequently, he was found unconscious at a relative’s residence in Moti Nagar. Although rumours circulated that he had attempted suicide, police said their preliminary investigation suggested the incident was intended to gain sympathy. After receiving treatment, he was discharged from the hospital on July 22, after which he allegedly went missing.

Investigation Continues

With Reddy now in police custody, investigators are expected to continue questioning him as part of the ongoing probe into the allegations. The outcome of the High Court proceedings and the police investigation will determine the next course of action in the case.
