  • Ujjain: An integrated temple-area development project in the religious and cultural city.
  • Rewa: An inclusive water-supply project to improve urban water infrastructure.

The conclave is expected to provide a platform for reviewing these projects and discussing strategies for their implementation.

Tier-2 Cities and Modern Urban Planning on Agenda

The planned development of Tier-2 cities will be another major subject of discussion at the conclave.

Sessions will cover urban planning and regulatory mechanisms that influence land use, housing, transport and infrastructure development.

The topics scheduled for discussion include:

  • Transit-Oriented Development (TOD): Planning urban growth around public transport systems.
  • Transferable Development Rights (TDR): Mechanisms for transferring development rights between designated areas.
  • Floor Area Ratio (FAR): Regulations governing the permissible built-up area on a plot.
  • Master plans and development corridors: Frameworks for managing urban expansion and infrastructure.
  • Residential redevelopment: Approaches to improving existing residential areas.
  • Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) approvals: Regulatory requirements related to real estate projects.
  • Ease of Doing Business: Measures to improve the business and investment environment.

The discussions will examine how these planning tools can support more efficient land use, improved housing facilities and better transport systems.

The state government has said its urban development approach aims to align investment, technology and infrastructure planning with citizens’ needs.

Treated Wastewater Reuse to Feature in Urban Water Strategy

The conclave will also discuss a vision for the recycling and reuse of treated wastewater in urban areas.

The proposed approach aims to strengthen scientific water management, reduce dependence on natural freshwater sources and make water conservation an integral part of urban development.

Discussions will focus on encouraging the use of treated wastewater for non-drinking purposes, including:

  • Industrial operations
  • Construction activities
  • Agricultural irrigation
  • Watering parks and gardens
  • Other suitable non-potable uses

The government intends to examine measures that could support the safe and wider use of treated wastewater across these sectors.

The initiative is part of the broader discussion on improving urban water management and conserving freshwater resources.

Investment, Startups and Technology to Drive Discussions

Urban Conclave 2026 is intended to encourage investment, innovation, modern technology and the development of the state’s startup ecosystem.

Investors will have opportunities to discuss proposed urban projects and potential areas of investment with the state government. Startups and young participants have also been invited to take part.

The event will provide a platform for discussions on policy improvements, emerging urban development models and ways to increase private-sector participation in infrastructure projects.

The government expects the discussions to contribute to a coordinated approach towards improving urban services and promoting environmentally sustainable development.
