Shillong: In a significant administrative exercise aimed at strengthening policing and field administration across the Khasi and Garo Hills regions, the Government of Meghalaya on Tuesday ordered a large-scale reshuffle of Indian Police Service (IPS) and Meghalaya Police Service (MPS) officers.

The transfer and posting orders were issued by Principal Secretary to the Home (Police) Department, F.R. Kharkongor, following recommendations of the Civil Services Board and the Police Establishment Board.

The reshuffle includes changes in key operational, intelligence and district-level assignments, with several officers posted to strategically important districts such as Shillong, Tura, Williamnagar, Baghmara and Resubelpara.

DIG-Level Changes in Eastern and Western Ranges

One of the most notable changes in the reshuffle involves senior IPS officers heading the Eastern and Western police ranges.

Vivekanand Singh, who was serving as Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Eastern Range, Shillong, has been transferred and posted as DIG, Western Range, Tura.

He replaces Jerry Fiscer K. Marak, who has now been appointed DIG, Eastern Range, Shillong.

The official notification stated that both postings will take effect from the date the officers assume charge or until further orders.

Strategic Move to Strengthen Policing Across Meghalaya

The reshuffle is being viewed as a strategic administrative measure by the Meghalaya government to streamline policing, strengthen district-level supervision and improve coordination in operationally sensitive areas across the state.

By placing experienced officers in key intelligence, traffic, security and district assignments, the government aims to enhance law-and-order management and administrative efficiency throughout Meghalaya.
