Shillong: In a significant administrative exercise aimed at strengthening policing and field administration across the Khasi and Garo Hills regions, the Government of Meghalaya on Tuesday ordered a large-scale reshuffle of Indian Police Service (IPS) and Meghalaya Police Service (MPS) officers.
The transfer and posting orders were issued by Principal Secretary to the Home (Police) Department, F.R. Kharkongor, following recommendations of the Civil Services Board and the Police Establishment Board.
The reshuffle includes changes in key operational, intelligence and district-level assignments, with several officers posted to strategically important districts such as Shillong, Tura, Williamnagar, Baghmara and Resubelpara.
DIG-Level Changes in Eastern and Western Ranges
One of the most notable changes in the reshuffle involves senior IPS officers heading the Eastern and Western police ranges.
Vivekanand Singh, who was serving as Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Eastern Range, Shillong, has been transferred and posted as DIG, Western Range, Tura.
He replaces Jerry Fiscer K. Marak, who has now been appointed DIG, Eastern Range, Shillong.
The official notification stated that both postings will take effect from the date the officers assume charge or until further orders.

Key IPS Officers Get New Assignments
Several other IPS officers have been given important new responsibilities:
- Siddharth Kumar Ambedkar has been transferred from Commandant, 5th Meghalaya Police Battalion (MLP), Samanda, to Commandant, 6th MLP Battalion, Umran.
- Shailendra Bamaniya, Superintendent of Police (SP), South Garo Hills, Baghmara, has been posted as SP, CID, Shillong.
- Pawar Swapnil Vasantrao, previously SP, North Garo Hills, Resubelpara, has been transferred as SP, East Garo Hills, Williamnagar.
- Naman Kumar, earlier SP, Vigilance and Intelligence Services (VIS), Shillong, has been posted as SP, CM Security, Shillong.
- Dewansh Pandey, SP City, Shillong, has been appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), Shillong.
- Ashish, Commandant, 6th MLP Battalion, Umran, has been posted as SP, Vigilance and Intelligence Services (VIS), Shillong.
- Ishan Gupta, SP, CM Security, Shillong, has been transferred as SP, North Garo Hills, Resubelpara.
- Hari Prasant M. R., earlier SP, MPRO, Tura, has been posted as SP (Traffic), East Khasi Hills district, Shillong.
Meghalaya Police Service Officers Also Reshuffled
The reshuffle also includes several important transfers involving Meghalaya Police Service officers:
- Stephen A. Rynjah, SP, East Garo Hills, Williamnagar, has been posted as Commandant, 5th MLP Battalion, Samanda.
- Ringrang T. G. Momin, SP, CID, Shillong, has been transferred as SP, South Garo Hills, Baghmara.
- Geffry Waemhok Lyngdoh, Assistant Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), has been posted as SP, Eastern West Khasi Hills district, Mairang.
- Dangsan Khyriem, SP, Eastern West Khasi Hills, Mairang, has been transferred as SP City, Shillong.
Strategic Move to Strengthen Policing Across Meghalaya
The reshuffle is being viewed as a strategic administrative measure by the Meghalaya government to streamline policing, strengthen district-level supervision and improve coordination in operationally sensitive areas across the state.
By placing experienced officers in key intelligence, traffic, security and district assignments, the government aims to enhance law-and-order management and administrative efficiency throughout Meghalaya.
