Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that Gwalior will move ahead of Punjab and Haryana in the field of agriculture, highlighting the region’s growing strength in farming, food processing, dairy production and other sectors.
The Chief Minister made the remarks while virtually addressing the “Balram Krishi Mahotsav” organised at the Dabra tehsil premises in Gwalior district.
He said the state government is observing 2026 as Kisan Kalyan Varsh (Farmer Welfare Year) and is organising Balram Krishi Mahotsavs across the state to promote farmer welfare, prosperity and modern agricultural practices.
CM Mohan Yadav Highlights Gwalior’s Agricultural Potential
Chief Minister Yadav said Gwalior evokes a sense of pride and is known not only for its association with legendary musician Tansen, but also for its farmers and soldiers.
He highlighted the region’s contribution to several sectors, including:
- Education
- Defence
- Agriculture
- Food processing
- Dairy production
The Chief Minister said Gwalior is also emerging as an important hub for the telecom industry and is developing rapidly.
He highlighted the region’s products, including sandstone, mustard, wheat, masoor and gram, saying these have strengthened Gwalior’s identity across the country.

Government to Support Gwalior’s Metropolitan Development
CM Yadav said Gwalior is progressing rapidly and assured that the state government would provide all possible support to develop Gwalior as a metropolitan city.
He also praised the Lal Tipara Adarsh Gaushala in Gwalior, describing it as the state’s largest model cow shelter.
According to the Chief Minister, other gaushalas across Madhya Pradesh are being developed by taking inspiration from the Lal Tipara model.
CM Urges Farmers to Get Farmer IDs
Addressing farmers at the event, Chief Minister Yadav urged them to obtain their Farmer ID.
He said the Farmer ID would help farmers access government schemes and receive important information related to agriculture.
The Chief Minister also encouraged farmers to understand the strengths of their land and move beyond dependence on traditional crops.
He advised farmers to focus on:
- Crop diversification
- Natural farming
- Advanced animal husbandry
- Improved dairy production
He said dairy production can provide a relatively quick avenue for improving farmers’ economic well-being.
Daytime Power Supply for Rabi Crop Irrigation
Chief Minister Yadav said the state government will make electricity available during the daytime as well as at night for irrigation of Rabi crops such as wheat and gram.
The move is aimed at making irrigation more convenient for farmers and supporting timely agricultural operations.
He also highlighted the government’s decision to establish Vrindavan villages in every assembly constituency, describing it as an ambitious initiative aimed at promoting village development.
The government is also developing Geeta Bhawans in cities, he said.
The Chief Minister further urged farmers to protect their land and avoid unnecessary expenditure on marriages, encouraging families to opt for mass marriage conventions.
He also extended greetings to people on the occasions of Raksha Bandhan and Janmashtami.
Progressive Farmers and Meritorious Children Honoured
The Balram Krishi Mahotsav held at the Dabra Mandi premises featured recognition of progressive farmers and meritorious children of farmers.
The programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp before the portrait of Lord Balram by Apex Bank Administrator Mahendra Singh Yadav and other guests.
Benefits under various government schemes were also distributed to beneficiaries during the programme.
Exhibition Showcases Modern Farming Technologies
An exhibition was organised to provide farmers with information about modern agricultural practices and technologies.
Key areas showcased at the event included:
- New agricultural technologies
- Organic and natural farming
- Modern agricultural machinery
- Drone technology
- Digital agriculture services
- Weather-based farming
- Soil health management
- Smart irrigation
- Modern agricultural management systems
Agriculture experts also explained crop diversification, natural farming techniques, climate-resilient agricultural practices and methods for managing agricultural risks.
Progressive farmers, including Pran Singh of Bilaua, who has successfully adopted natural farming, shared their experiences with other farmers.
The event also featured cultural programmes with patriotic and entertaining performances.
Farmer Welfare Year Focuses on New Initiatives
Apex Bank Administrator Mahendra Singh Yadav said the decision to observe the current year as Farmer Welfare Year reflects the state government’s farmer-focused approach.
He said several new initiatives are being added for the benefit of farmers under the campaign.
He also highlighted a special drive to increase membership in the cooperative sector and urged stakeholders to ensure that government schemes reach eligible farmers.
Officials and Public Representatives Attend Event
Several public representatives and senior officials attended the Balram Krishi Mahotsav.
Those present included former minister Imarti Devi, Balram Mahotsav and Cultural Cell convenor Kapil Yarde, Prem Singh Rajput, Dabra Janpad Panchayat President Pravesh Gurjar, District Panchayat Vice-President Priyanka Singh Ghureiya, Kisan Morcha District President Amardeep Olakh and other elected representatives.
Senior officials present included Gwalior District Collector Ruchika Chauhan, District Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Soojan Singh Rawat, Dabra SDM Juhi Garg and Deputy Director, Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development Bhanu Prakash Sharma, along with officials from various departments and progressive farmers from across the district.
