New Delhi: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna to enhance safety measures, hill slope protection, and landslide mitigation for national highways. The partnership aims to make India’s highway infrastructure more resilient, particularly in challenging hilly and geologically sensitive regions.
Focus Areas of the Collaboration
The MoU outlines a strategic plan to address safety concerns and operational risks associated with tunnels and slopes. Key focus areas include:
- Conducting scientific investigations to improve tunnel safety and design.
- Developing advanced tunnel engineering solutions and structural designs.
- Promoting capacity building for engineers and technical personnel.
- Recommending landslide and slope mitigation measures for safer highway operations.
