Patna: The state government has initiated a major plan to develop and connect Bihar’s key religious and historical destinations through dedicated tourism corridors, aiming to boost pilgrimage tourism, improve infrastructure, and create new employment opportunities.
The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary during a public welfare camp held at Nadiyama village in Phulwari Sharif, Patna.
Bihar’s Rich Heritage to Get National and Global Recognition
Highlighting Bihar’s cultural importance, Samrat Choudhary said the state is a land of spirituality, history, and ancient civilization. However, many of its important heritage sites have not yet received adequate recognition.
The government now aims to promote these locations at both national and international levels through structured development and improved connectivity.
Key Religious and Historical Sites Identified for Development
The tourism development plan will focus on upgrading and connecting several major sites, including:
- Maa Mundeshwari Temple, Kaimur
- Hariharnath Temple, Sonepur
- Vishnupad Temple, Gaya
- Ancient ruins of Nalanda
- Vikramshila Mahavihara
These sites will receive improved road connectivity, transport access, and modern tourist facilities.
Tourism Corridors and Circuits to Improve Connectivity
The government will develop dedicated religious tourism corridors and circuits to link multiple pilgrimage destinations in a single travel route. This will allow tourists and devotees to visit several sacred and historical sites in one journey.
Facilities planned under the project include:
- Better road infrastructure
- Enhanced transport connectivity
- Safe travel environment
- Improved accommodation and visitor amenities
Tourism to Drive Employment and Economic Growth
According to Samrat Choudhary, tourism will play a key role in boosting Bihar’s economy. The initiative is expected to generate:
- Growth in the hotel and hospitality sector
- Expansion of transport services
- Boost to handicrafts and local businesses
- New employment opportunities for youth
The government believes tourism development will directly benefit local communities.
Special Focus on Nalanda and Vikramshila
The state has also placed special emphasis on preserving and strengthening its ancient academic heritage:
- Development of the historical legacy of Nalanda University
- Progress on the revival and reconstruction of Vikramshila University
These efforts aim to restore Bihar’s global identity as a historic center of learning and culture.
Vision for a Developed Bihar
Samrat Choudhary stated that Bihar’s tourism transformation aligns with the broader vision of a developed India. Strengthening religious and heritage tourism is expected to enhance the state’s economy and position Bihar as one of India’s leading tourism destinations.
He expressed confidence that in the coming years, Bihar’s tourism landscape will be completely transformed with world-class infrastructure and global recognition.
