Agartala: NHPC Limited, India’s leading hydropower company, has signed a 40-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (TSECL) for the supply of power from its upcoming 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh.
The agreement was signed on July 10, 2026, in Agartala and marks a major step towards strengthening clean energy cooperation between NHPC and Tripura. The PPA will come into effect from the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of the project and will remain valid for four decades.
NHPC and Tripura Sign Long-Term Clean Energy Agreement
The newly signed PPA will enable Tripura to procure reliable and sustainable hydroelectric power from the Kamala Hydro Electric Project.
The agreement is expected to strengthen the state’s long-term energy security by ensuring a stable supply of renewable electricity while supporting India’s clean energy transition goals.

PPA Signed During Destination Tripura: Business Conclave 2026
The Power Purchase Agreement was signed during the “Destination Tripura: Business Conclave 2026” organized by the Government of Tripura.
The agreement was signed by:
- Mr. Ranjeet Thakur, General Manager (Commercial), NHPC
- Ms. Sujata Sarkar, Deputy General Manager (Commercial), TSECL
The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials, including:
- Mr. Abhisek Singh, IAS, Secretary, Department of Power, Government of Tripura
- Mr. Biswajit Basu, Managing Director, TSECL
- Senior officials from NHPC and TSECL
Kamala Hydro Project to Boost Renewable Energy Capacity
The 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project is among the major upcoming hydropower projects in Arunachal Pradesh.
Once operational, the project is expected to make a significant contribution to India’s renewable energy capacity and help meet the growing electricity demand in the northeastern region.
