New Delhi: NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), a subsidiary of NLC India Limited, has emerged as the successful bidder for a 265 MW/530 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Haryana.
NLC India Limited informed the stock exchanges on September 30, 2026, that NIRL secured the full capacity in a tender floated by SJVN Limited under the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme through tariff-based competitive bidding.
The project has been awarded at a final capacity charge of ₹2,35,000 per MW per month. NIRL has also received the Letter of Award from SJVN Limited.
NLC India Renewables Secures Full 265 MW BESS Capacity
NIRL participated in SJVN’s tender for setting up standalone Battery Energy Storage Systems in Haryana.
The company has been awarded the entire tendered capacity of:
- Power capacity: 265 MW
- Energy storage capacity: 530 MWh
- Storage duration: Two hours
- Capacity charge: ₹2,35,000 per MW per month
- Project location: Haryana
- Tendering agency: SJVN Limited
- Scheme: Viability Gap Funding (VGF)

The Letter of Award formally confirms NIRL’s selection for the project.

BESS Project to Provide 530 MWh of Energy Storage
The utility-scale storage project will have a total power capacity of 265 MW and an energy storage capability of 530 MWh.
With a two-hour dispatch duration, the system is designed to provide up to 265 MW of power for two hours when dispatched at full capacity.
The project forms part of the growing deployment of standalone energy storage systems to support power system flexibility and energy management.
NIRL Wins Project at ₹2.35 Lakh per MW Per Month
The final capacity charge discovered through the competitive bidding process is ₹2.35 lakh per MW per month.
At this rate, the award covers the complete 265 MW capacity secured by NIRL.
The project was tendered under the VGF scheme, which is aimed at supporting the development of energy storage infrastructure through viability gap funding support.
NLC India Reports Mixed June 2026 Quarter Performance
Alongside the BESS project development, NLC India’s consolidated financial performance for the June 2026 quarter showed growth in sales revenue but a decline in net profit.
According to the information provided:
- Consolidated sales revenue increased 23.29% year-on-year to ₹4,716.75 crore.
- Consolidated net profit stood at ₹484.27 crore.
- Net profit declined 39.28% compared with the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
The BESS project adds to the group’s activities in the renewable energy and energy storage segment.
