Indian Masterminds Stories

Bengaluru: NLC India Limited’s wholly owned subsidiary, NLC India Renewables Limited, has secured a Letter of Award (LoA) from the Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) for developing a 200 MW wind power project in Koppal, Karnataka.

Under the award, NLC India Renewables will establish the wind power project and supply the electricity generated from the facility to SECI.

The development marks another step in NLC India’s strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio alongside its traditional mining and power businesses.

200 MW Wind Power Project to Come Up in Koppal

The project will have a total capacity of 200 MW and will be located in Koppal district of Karnataka. NLC India Renewables will be responsible for developing the wind power facility, while the electricity generated will be supplied to SECI under the terms of the award.

Koppal has favourable wind conditions, making it suitable for utility-scale wind energy projects. The project will add to NLC India Renewables’ growing presence in the renewable energy sector.

SECI Awards Letter of Award to NLC India Renewables

The LoA from SECI represents an important opportunity for NLC India to strengthen its renewable energy business.

The project is expected to contribute to the company’s broader clean energy expansion strategy and support the development of additional renewable energy capacity in the country.

However, the available exchange filing does not disclose key financial details such as:

  • Project value
  • Tariff
  • Expected commissioning date
  • Detailed investment requirement

Therefore, the project’s exact financial contribution to NLC India’s revenue and profitability cannot be determined at this stage.

Renewable Energy Push Strengthens NLC India’s Growth Strategy

The 200 MW wind project adds another component to NLC India’s renewable energy expansion plans. The company has traditionally been associated with mining and power generation, while its renewable energy subsidiary is increasingly focusing on clean energy projects.

The latest award could help NLC India diversify its energy portfolio and increase its presence in the growing wind power segment. The key factors to monitor going forward will include project execution, investment requirements, commissioning timelines and the eventual contribution of renewable projects to earnings.

NLC India Reports Growth in Revenue

The renewable energy award comes at a time when NLC India has reported growth in its operating performance. For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, NLC India reported a 15.07% year-on-year increase in standalone revenue from operations to ₹2,871.73 crore.

The increase was attributed to higher coal production and power generation. On a consolidated basis, the company’s revenue rose 23.29% year-on-year to ₹4,716.75 crore during the quarter.

Investor Impact: What to Watch

The SECI award is positive for NLC India’s renewable energy ambitions, but the immediate financial impact remains difficult to quantify because important project details have not yet been disclosed.

Investors may therefore focus on:

  • Progress in project development
  • Capital expenditure and funding requirements
  • Project commissioning timeline
  • Power supply arrangements
  • Future contribution of renewable projects to revenue and earnings

Successful execution of the 200 MW project could strengthen NLC India Renewables’ position in the wind energy market and support the parent company’s long-term clean energy transition.
