73,184 Homes, 137 Urban Bodies: UP Steps Up PMAY-U 2.0 Drive

New housing approvals take total PMAY-U 2.0 BLC sanctions in Uttar Pradesh to 4,88,526
Indian Masterminds Stories

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has approved 73,184 new houses across 137 urban local bodies under the Beneficiary-Led Individual House Construction (BLC) component of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0).

The latest approval is aimed at accelerating affordable housing for eligible urban families while ensuring timely construction and delivery.

73,184 Houses Get Approval

The approval came during a meeting of the State Level Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (SLSMC) chaired by Chief Secretary S P Goyal.

With the latest sanction, the total number of houses approved under the BLC component of PMAY-U 2.0 in Uttar Pradesh has reached 4,88,526.

Goyal directed officials to closely monitor construction and ensure that beneficiaries receive their homes within the stipulated timelines.

Focus on Quality and Timely Delivery

The Chief Secretary stressed that the newly sanctioned houses should meet prescribed construction standards and quality requirements.

Officials have also been asked to:

  • Regularly review project progress.
  • Prevent unnecessary delays.
  • Ensure timely completion and delivery of houses to beneficiaries.

The monitoring is intended to ensure that housing approvals translate into completed homes on the ground.

What Is PMAY-U 2.0?

Launched in September 2024, PMAY-U 2.0 is the Centre’s expanded Housing for All mission for urban India.

The scheme aims to support one crore additional urban households in constructing, purchasing or renting affordable homes.

The mission involves a total investment of ₹10 lakh crore, including ₹1.6 lakh crore in central assistance.

Four Components Under the Scheme

PMAY-U 2.0 operates through four components:

  • Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC)
  • Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP)
  • Affordable Rental Housing (ARH)
  • Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS)

Under BLC, eligible families from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category can receive financial assistance to construct a new pucca house on their own land.

Eligible beneficiaries can construct homes with a carpet area of 30 to 45 square metres, subject to scheme guidelines. States can also provide land rights to eligible landless beneficiaries.

Housing Push Across Urban India

PMAY-U 2.0 has been expanded to cover 5,494 towns and Urban Development Authorities across the country.

For Uttar Pradesh, the latest approval of 73,184 houses adds further momentum to the state’s urban housing programme. The focus now remains on timely construction, quality control and ensuring that approved homes reach eligible beneficiaries.
