NPCIL Achieves Major Milestones: RAPP-7 Hits 90% Power, RAPP-8 Nears Grid Synchronization

New Delhi: The Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) has announced significant operational progress at the Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (RAPP), reinforcing India’s commitment to expanding clean and reliable nuclear energy capacity. These developments mark critical steps in strengthening the country’s base-load power generation and supporting national climate goals.

RAPP-7 Reaches 90% Power

RAPP-7 has successfully achieved 90% of Full Power operation since 29 December 2025, following the receipt of necessary regulatory clearances. This milestone reflects stable reactor performance and represents a key stage in the unit’s commissioning journey. With RAPP-7 moving closer to full commercial operation, the unit is poised to contribute significantly to India’s electricity grid, helping meet growing energy demand while reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

RAPP-8 Completes PHT Hot Conditioning

Meanwhile, RAPP-8 has crossed an important pre-commissioning milestone with the completion of the Primary Heat Transport (PHT) System Hot Conditioning on 05 January 2026 at 04:35 hrs. This technical achievement paves the way for the next stages of development, including Initial Fuel Loading, achieving Criticality, and eventual Grid Synchronization. The progress of RAPP-8 highlights NPCIL’s commitment to precision engineering, rigorous safety protocols, and systematic commissioning practices.

Together, the milestones at RAPP-7 and RAPP-8 demonstrate NPCIL’s dedication to enhancing India’s nuclear energy capabilities. The Rajasthan Atomic Power Project continues to play a vital role in ensuring stable base-load power generation, contributing to national energy security, and supporting the country’s long-term environmental and climate objectives.
