Chennai: More than 19,000 candidates appeared for Tamil Nadu’s UPSC Prelims Scholarship Examination conducted across the state on September 6, as the government seeks to provide financial and coaching support to civil services aspirants.
The Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC) conducted the examination at 114 centres, with 25,771 candidates registered for the test. Of these, 19,614 appeared, while 6,157 were absent.
1,000 Aspirants to Receive Financial Support
The examination is part of the Tamil Nadu government’s UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination incentive scheme.

Based on their performance, 1,000 candidates from Tamil Nadu will be selected to receive an incentive of ₹7,500 per month for 10 months while preparing for the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2027.

Support for Candidates With Disabilities
Among those who appeared, 202 were persons with disabilities. Special arrangements were made for them, including an additional 40 minutes of examination time.
More than 40 candidates in this category reportedly took the examination with the assistance of scribes.
Test Also Linked to Government Coaching
The scholarship examination also serves as a route for admission to civil-services training institutions functioning under the Anna Institute of Management. The initiative is intended to strengthen support for Tamil Nadu candidates preparing for the national civil services examination.
Authorities reported that the examination was conducted without any untoward incidents or complaints.
