New Delhi: The tenure of Mr. Gurdeep Singh as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of NTPC Limited has been extended until July 31, 2026, according to an official notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). He will continue in the role on a contractual basis, or until a regular successor assumes charge, whichever is earlier.
Official Extension Details of NTPC CMD Tenure
As per the government notification:
- Mr. Gurdeep Singh’s current tenure runs from August 1, 2025 to July 31, 2026
- Extension granted on a contract basis
- He will continue until a new permanent CMD is appointed
- Decision issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT)
This extension ensures leadership continuity at India’s largest power generation company during a critical phase of energy transition.

Long Tenure as One of NTPC’s Longest-Serving CMDs
Mr. Gurdeep Singh first took charge as CMD of NTPC in February 2016 and has since led the organization for over nine years.
- Appointed CMD in February 2016
- Previously served as MD of Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL)
- Granted earlier extension in 2020
- Mechanical engineer with extensive experience in the power sector
His long tenure places him among the longest-serving heads in NTPC’s history.
