OIL Green Energy Signs MoU With NRL to Expand Renewable Energy Collaboration and Support Net-Zero Goals

OGEL and Numaligarh Refinery Limited partner for green power development, procurement, and supply to boost clean energy transition in India’s oil sector

New Delhi: Oil India Limited has announced that its renewable energy arm, OIL Green Energy Limited (OGEL), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Numaligarh Refinery Limited to jointly develop, procure, and supply renewable energy.

The partnership marks a major step in strengthening clean energy adoption and supporting group captive energy requirements.

Focus on Renewable Energy Development and Supply

Under the agreement, OGEL and NRL will collaborate on:

  • Development of renewable energy projects
  • Procurement of green power
  • Long-term supply of renewable energy
  • Meeting group captive energy needs

The initiative is designed to integrate renewable energy into refinery and operational consumption systems.

MoU Signed in Presence of Top Leadership

The agreement was signed by senior officials from both organisations:

  • Rajeev Kumar Tamuli, GM, OGEL
  • Rupam Kumar Sarma, GM (Technical Services), NRL

The signing ceremony was attended by top leadership, including the Chairman & Managing Director of Oil India (also Chairman of NRL), Managing Director of NRL, directors of both companies, and senior executives from OGEL and NRL.

Strengthening India’s Clean Energy Transition

The collaboration is aligned with India’s broader energy transition goals and is expected to:

  • Expand OGEL’s renewable energy portfolio
  • Diversify energy sourcing for group companies
  • Support Oil India’s net-zero target by 2040
  • Contribute to India’s net-zero goal by 2070

This move reflects the increasing focus of oil and gas companies on reducing carbon emissions and adopting sustainable energy solutions.

Strategic Importance for Energy Sector

The MoU is seen as an important milestone in integrating renewable energy into core industrial operations. It also supports improved energy efficiency, reduced operational emissions, and long-term energy security for refinery operations.

About Oil India Limited (OIL)

Oil India Limited is a major public sector enterprise engaged in the exploration, production, and transportation of crude oil and natural gas. The company is also actively expanding into renewable energy through its subsidiary to support India’s clean energy transition and achieve net-zero emissions targets.

About OIL Green Energy Limited (OGEL)

OIL Green Energy Limited is the renewable energy subsidiary of Oil India Limited. It focuses on developing and managing clean energy projects, including solar and other renewable sources, to support sustainable power solutions for group entities and contribute to India’s green energy goals.

About Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL)

Numaligarh Refinery Limited is a public sector refinery operating in Assam. It plays a key role in petroleum refining and distribution in Northeast India and is now actively integrating renewable energy into its operations to reduce carbon footprint and strengthen sustainability practices.
