New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: The Government of Odisha has promoted 2010-batch IAS officer Sudhansu Mohan Samal as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Odisha Mining Corporation Limited (OMC).
Samal is currently serving as Managing Director of OMC and holds the additional charge of Revenue Divisional Commissioner (RDC), Central Division, Cuttack. He will continue to hold the additional charge of RDC, Central Division, alongside his new responsibility as CMD of OMC.
Sudhansu Mohan Samal to Succeed Girish SN
With his new appointment, Sudhansu Mohan Samal will replace Girish SN (IAS), who was serving as Chairman of OMC.
According to an order issued by the Odisha Government, Samal’s appointment as CMD will be effective from the date he assumes charge and will continue until further orders.
Samal’s Administrative and Corporate Experience
Hailing from Kendrapara, Samal is an economist who has held several key administrative positions during his career.
His previous experience includes:
- Serving in the Planning Commission
- Managing multiple districts as a District Collector
- Moving into corporate leadership with OMC
His administrative background and experience in policy and economic matters have supported his role in driving operational changes at the state-owned mining corporation.
OMC Undergoes Digital and Operational Transformation
During Samal’s tenure as Managing Director, OMC has undertaken significant digital and operational transformation aimed at achieving international compliance standards and improving state revenues.
Samal has promoted a technology-driven approach to modernise the public sector enterprise, with emphasis on reducing legacy manual processes, improving product consistency and strengthening supply-chain transparency.
Integrated Operations & Monitoring Centre Commissioned
One of the major modernisation initiatives driven by Samal’s office is the Integrated Operations & Monitoring Centre.
The facility enables real-time digital oversight of field extraction activities, supporting better monitoring and operational decision-making.
OMC has also introduced customised digital tools to strengthen safety and logistics management.
These include:
- e-Safety Diary to support workforce safety and welfare.
- Secure Trip Management System to strengthen logistics control and improve operational monitoring.
These technology interventions are part of OMC’s broader efforts to modernise its operations and improve transparency across its mining and supply-chain activities.
