New Delhi: The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Commodore Sanjay Kumar for the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), a Schedule ‘C’ Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE). The selection meeting was held on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
Subject to the requisite clearances and approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), Commodore Sanjay Kumar is expected to take charge as the next CMD of NRDC. He will succeed Commodore Amit Rastogi, who is due to superannuate on March 31, 2027.
Commodore Sanjay Kumar’s Background
Commodore Sanjay Kumar is a serving officer of the Indian Navy and is currently posted as Director, HQ Naval Technical Group (Bangalore).
He was selected by PESB from among 12 candidates interviewed for the top position at NRDC.
His appointment will become effective after completion of the required administrative clearances and approval by the ACC.

12 Candidates Interviewed for NRDC CMD Post
The PESB interviewed candidates from various public sector enterprises, government organisations and the defence sector for the CMD position.
The candidates included:
- Ms. Renu Sarin – Additional General Manager (Business Development), NTPC Limited
- Dr. Rajnish Kumar – Deputy General Manager (Aviation), Indian Oil Corporation Limited
- Vijay Kumar – Additional General Manager, NVVN, NTPC Limited
- Manoj Kumar – Chief General Manager (Mines), MOIL Limited
- Dr. B. Shanmugarajan – Additional General Manager, BHEL
- Dr. P. Anil Kumar – Deputy General Manager (MM), RINL
- Ramesh Kumar Dewangan – Assistant General Manager (Mining), NMDC Limited
- Rajani Kant Gupta – Additional General Manager, NTPC Limited
- Satyam Singh – Executive Director, Central Electronics Limited
- Revati Raman – Deputy General Manager, SJVN Limited
- Akhilesh Kamal Shah – Chief Quality Assurance Officer, Department of Defence Production
- Commodore Sanjay Kumar – Director, HQ Naval Technical Group (Bangalore), Indian Navy
Sanjay Kumar to Succeed Commodore Amit Rastogi
If approved, Commodore Sanjay Kumar will take over as the next CMD of NRDC after completing the required clearances and receiving approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
He will succeed Commodore Amit Rastogi, who is scheduled to superannuate on March 31, 2027.
The recommendation by PESB is an important step in the appointment process, with the final decision subject to approval by the competent authority.
PESB Recommendation to Be Processed for Final Approval
The position of Chairman and Managing Director of NRDC is a Board-level appointment. Following the PESB recommendation, the proposal will now be processed for the required approvals by the competent authority.
The final appointment will be subject to the necessary clearances and approval of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
