PLI Schemes Generate ₹2.40 Lakh Crore Investment, 14.15 Lakh Jobs and ₹15.2 Lakh Crore Exports 

Government says the 14-sector Production Linked Incentive (PLI) programme has accelerated manufacturing, reduced imports, strengthened exports, and driven major investments in solar, pharma, electronics, automobiles, and specialty steel.

New Delhi: India’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Schemes continue to drive the country’s manufacturing growth, with the government announcing that the initiative has attracted over ₹2.40 lakh crore in actual investment, generated more than 14.15 lakh direct and indirect jobs, and enabled exports worth over ₹15.2 lakh crore as of March 31, 2026.

The update was shared by Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada in a written reply in the Lok Sabha. The government said the PLI schemes are strengthening domestic manufacturing, reducing import dependence, increasing exports, and integrating India into global supply chains.

PLI Scheme Delivers Strong Growth Across 14 Key Sectors

The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) programme, launched to boost domestic manufacturing, covers 14 strategic sectors with a total financial outlay of ₹1.91 lakh crore.

According to the government, the scheme has become a major driver of:

  • Manufacturing growth.
  • Export expansion.
  • Employment generation.
  • Domestic value addition.
  • Global competitiveness.

The programme aims to position India as a global manufacturing hub while supporting the government’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).

Key Achievements of the PLI Scheme

As of March 31, 2026, the PLI schemes have achieved the following milestones:

  • Actual investment: More than ₹2.40 lakh crore.
  • Employment generated: Over 14.15 lakh direct and indirect jobs.
  • Exports: More than ₹15.2 lakh crore since inception.
  • Total sectors covered: 14.
  • Scheme outlay: ₹1.91 lakh crore.

The government noted that exports have increased significantly from around ₹4 lakh crore until FY24 to over ₹15.2 lakh crore.

Mobile Phone Manufacturing Records Major Success

The PLI scheme has transformed India’s mobile phone manufacturing sector.

Major achievements include:

  • Mobile phone production has increased 2.4 times.
  • Mobile phone imports have declined by 77%.
  • Around 99.2% of mobile phones sold in India are now manufactured domestically.

The government said this has strengthened India’s position as one of the world’s leading mobile manufacturing destinations.

Pharmaceutical Sector Expands Domestic Manufacturing

The pharmaceutical sector has also recorded significant growth under the PLI programme.

Key highlights include:

  • Cumulative sales exceeding ₹3.64 lakh crore.
  • Manufacturing of 1,931 pharmaceutical products within India.
  • Local production of several critical bulk drugs for the first time.

The initiative is helping reduce dependence on imported pharmaceutical ingredients while strengthening India’s healthcare manufacturing ecosystem.

Medical Devices Manufacturing Gains Momentum

The PLI scheme has also supported domestic manufacturing of advanced medical equipment.

India has started producing sophisticated devices such as:

  • CT scanners.
  • MRI systems.
  • Other advanced medical equipment.

The move is expected to strengthen the country’s healthcare infrastructure while reducing import dependence.

White Goods and Solar Manufacturing Receive Major Boost

The government highlighted strong growth in the white goods and renewable energy sectors.

Under the PLI scheme:

  • Compressor manufacturing capacity has increased from 1 million units to 10 million units.
  • High-efficiency Solar PV Module manufacturing capacity has expanded significantly to support India’s clean energy goals.

Solar PV Modules Receive the Highest Investment

According to data presented in Parliament, the High-Efficiency Solar PV Modules sector received the highest investment among all PLI sectors.

Top investment-receiving sectors:

  • High-Efficiency Solar PV Modules: ₹64,873 crore
  • Pharmaceuticals: ₹45,158 crore
  • Automobile & Auto Components: ₹44,326 crore
  • Specialty Steel: ₹23,896 crore
  • Large-Scale Electronics Manufacturing: ₹20,580 crore

These investments are expected to strengthen India’s manufacturing ecosystem across strategic industries.

Government Says PLI Is Strengthening India’s Global Manufacturing Position

In his written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State Jitin Prasada said the PLI schemes have enabled exports worth more than ₹15.2 lakh crore since their launch, demonstrating India’s growing integration into global value chains.

The government believes the initiative is creating new employment opportunities, attracting large-scale investments, increasing domestic production, and reducing dependence on imports across multiple industries.

PLI Scheme Supports India’s Self-Reliance and Economic Growth

With investments exceeding ₹2.40 lakh crore, employment generation crossing 14.15 lakh, and exports surpassing ₹15.2 lakh crore, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme has emerged as one of India’s flagship industrial policy initiatives.

By encouraging manufacturing across 14 strategic sectors, the programme is playing a key role in strengthening India’s industrial base, enhancing export competitiveness, promoting technological advancement, and supporting the country’s long-term vision of becoming a global manufacturing powerhouse.
