New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has appointed Dharambir Kumar, Executive Director (ED), as the Head of North Eastern Region Transmission System (NERTS), effective September 18, 2026.
POWERGRID is a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. Kumar brings more than three decades of experience in the power transmission sector to his new leadership role.
Dharambir Kumar Appointed Head of NERTS
Dharambir Kumar joined POWERGRID in January 1994 and has completed more than 32 years of service in the power transmission sector.
He was promoted to the position of Executive Director in July 2026 and has now taken charge as Head of NERTS.
His new role involves overseeing POWERGRID’s transmission system operations and related activities in the North Eastern Region.

Educational Qualification and Professional Experience
Kumar holds a B.Sc. Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering from B.R. Ambedkar Bihar University, Muzaffarpur.
During his long association with POWERGRID, he has worked in several capacities across different regions and offices.
His professional experience covers:
- Substation maintenance and operation
- Operation and maintenance activities
- Consultancy assignments
- Transmission line projects
- Substation projects
- Project execution
- Corporate and regional office assignments
His diverse experience spans technical operations as well as project implementation within the power transmission sector.
Experience Across North Eastern and Eastern Regions
Kumar has served across the North Eastern and Eastern regions, along with assignments at POWERGRID’s corporate and regional offices.
His previous postings have included locations such as:
- Jiribam
- Seppa
- Ranchi
- Jamshedpur
- Gurgaon
- Rajasthan
- Other regional and corporate locations
His experience in the North Eastern Region includes assignments at Jiribam and Seppa, providing him with exposure to the region’s transmission infrastructure and operational requirements.
New Leadership Role at POWERGRID
As Head of North Eastern Region Transmission System (NERTS), Dharambir Kumar will lead POWERGRID’s transmission-related operations and activities across the North Eastern Region.
His appointment follows his elevation to the Executive Director position in July 2026 and marks another senior leadership responsibility in his long career with POWERGRID.
The appointment brings extensive experience in transmission system operation, maintenance, consultancy and project execution to the leadership of NERTS.
